S&I Gazette #49: More pitches or the right pitches?

S&I Gazette #49: More pitches or the right pitches?

"Fundraising is a numbers game, just pitch more"

You’ve probably heard this advice before

The idea that if you just send your deck to more investors, one of them has to say yes

But here’s the reality:?

Quality > Quantity

Raising capital isn’t about blindly pitching to hundreds of investors

It’s about the right strategy, the right investors, and the right timing

Here’s why a more strategic approach wins:

? Investors aren’t all the same

Each has specific criteria, sectors, and deal sizes they focus on

Pitching to the wrong ones is just wasted effort

? A strong fit gets faster responses

An investor who understands your market and believes in your vision is far more likely to engage

? Reputation matters?

If your deck makes the rounds with no serious interest, it signals a weak opportunity

? Time is your most valuable asset

Instead of spending hours sending cold emails to everyone with ‘VC’ in their LinkedIn title, focus on investors who align with your stage, industry, and vision

What to do instead?

  1. Research investors thoroughly, align with their focus areas
  2. Build relationships before you need to raise
  3. Customise your pitch, highlight why they should invest in you
  4. Track feedback, refine your pitch, and improve along the way

Raising capital isn’t just about numbers

It’s about the right conversations with the right people

P.S. We just launched a free pitch deck guide. It’s meant for entrepreneurs looking for help with building a pitch deck. You can get it on my profile!
