Shutting the Door of the Mocker

Shutting the Door of the Mocker

Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife; quarrels and insults are ended. Proverbs 22:10

There is a good chance that many of us have at least one mocker in our life. The person who likes to push your buttons and tell you how wrong you are. The one who challenges your love. The one who enjoys quarrelling and who likes to insult you. Many times they enjoy it because we respond in a way that brings them pleasure. There may be times when the mocker may even seek us out to find enjoyment for the day. They like strife in their life.

We may even work beside people who are mockers and we cannot quit our jobs. There has to be something we can do besides filling our day with strife. If we stop allowing the mocker in, they will have no one to insult or quarrel with. If we stop allowing their words to become a part of our day we will soon find strife leaving. We have to do our part; we have to put up boundaries of who we will allow in our lives.

The part of our life where opinions matter is where the mocker is left out. A mocker’s opinion about us does not matter. We can choose who we will open the door to and who we allow in our lives.  Sure we may work beside them but we do not have to allow their behavior to effect ours. We will find strife leaving when we shut the door to their influence in our lives. We still have to love them but we certainly do not have to pick up their mocking actions and words and make them our own.
