Shut Down of BBC
The country which once used to be the ruler of the entire globe is now facing financial challenges from directions. We are talking about the territory of United Kingdom. People at one time ignored the warning made by one of the persons running for the prime ministerial post and that was Mr. Rishi Sunak.
All the blame is now coming upon the current Prime Minister of UK, Ms. Liz Truss and her policy. The billionaires of UK, are blaming the downfall of the currency and the country upon the government and its policies.
Amidst all this, the Crown jewel of the United Kingdom, the British Broadcasting Corporation has decided to close all its services in languages like Hindi, Urdu etc. It is also being said that BBC is set to release at least 1000 of its employees to sustain in the market a little longer.
HISTORY OF BBC
The British Broadcasting Corporation or the BBC is the national broadcaster of the United Kingdom. Headquartered at the broadcasting house London, it is the world’s oldest national broadcaster and the largest broadcaster in the world by the number of employees working, employing over 22,000 people. It can be said that BBC belongs to the royal family of UK.
It is often said that BBC defends the internal and external move of the UK and over everything else. Apart from this it is supposed to have a monarchy bias for it always puts the Royal family above everything. Recently it is being said that the BBC is finally ending its reign in the Indian territory.
BBC used to be present in the country of China but once it started speaking against the Chinese government, it was immediately banned.
Even after this, the BBC is present in 20 major nations covering a lot of languages. It is present in every major continent including North America, South America and Europe. It has almost 20,000 employees all across the globe. It also helps in developing the soft power for the United Kingdom.

Soft Power means that if you do not want to use your hard power such as the military but still want the work to be get done, then you use your soft power. BBC is a very important part of UK’s soft power as it is said that BBC’s journalism is very sophisticated and to the point.
In India, we have a lot of options in terms of news channels so we are not dependent upon BBC only or any other one news channel for the fact of the matter. However, there are many small nations in the world where BBC is the prime source of knowledge and information. The main reason for BBC’s failure is the British govt.’s failure to fund the organization, because in real terms they do not have money.
Apart from all this BBC is considered to have been asking for a lot of money recently from the British government. However, the British government realized that BBC requires billions of pounds to get back up on its feet. The situation of BBC can be compared to that of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) in India.
The downfall of BBC has created a vacuum and this vacuum can be filled by India. Many have been sharing the news of DD International being live in some time or some other time but even if DD international arrives, it will be arriving in 2023. If India is able to fill the gap created by the BBC, then it will be a major boost in the soft power for India.
Another major gap that has been created is the one created after the ban of Russia today amidst the Russo-Ukrainian war.
So, it is a great time for India to expand its resources, work some extra minutes and do what is the best for country and our people.
