Shri Shiva Pujan consists of offering prayers to all the things favourite to him. Snake: You know snakes are rejected by entire world, when lord Vishnu's vehicle Garuda attacked him, Shiva saved him and accepted him in his neck. Moon:Moon was cursed by Lord Brahma's son and no one was ready to accept him but again Shiva accepted him and gave him a new life.
River Ganga: When river Ganga came to earth, no one was ready to accept her super power force, again lord Shiva gave her place in his hair (no one could tolerate river ganga's velocity except lord Shiva. Kaalkoot(Halāhala) poison: During churning of ocean, every God got something, lord Indra got elephant, lord Vishnu god wealth (Lakshmi ji), other Gods got nectar(amrit). Question was who would accept deadly poison again only Shiva drank poison for the sake of the world.
Demons: No God were ready to accept the demons as devotees because of their bad karmas, but only lord shiva gave them his blessings being father of universe and even gave them Sanjivani maha vidya. Those who do not know any rituals and vedic mantras and other rituals.Tell me another god who will be pleased only with some water drops and Bilwa leaves.
Although I am hated by most of the people due to my blunt nature, I don't know why I never judge anyone, never hurt anyone, mocked by friends and judged by everyone, still I find only Lord Shiva holding my hands, problems come and vanish without touching me. He does not not care about luxurious lifestyle because he is the master of entire universe and he is too busy to accept those who have nothing except him. This is also true,if someone has him, he already has everything.
Its not at all difficult to please Lord Shiva as he does not require any fancy rituals to make him happy. All you need is a pure heart and love for him and then no matter what happens hes going to help you. In case you really wanna please him just don't hurt any one either with your words or by your actions. If you do this he is all pleased. In my perspective, if you are worshipping Shiva, then you don't have to pray to other Gods and Goddesses, since your prayer will reach every one.

God is one, it's only that we refer the almighty with different names. Shri Hari (Vishnu) and Shri Hara (Shiva) HariHar are one and the same. "Shivaya Vishnu Rupaaya, Shiva Rupaaya Vishnave, Shivasya Hrudayam Vishnor, Vishnoscha Hrudayam Shiva"! This means that Shiva and Vishnu are one and the same , and Shiva resides in Vishnu’s heart and vice versa. If you pray to Vishnu or Shiva , it's one and the same. Lakshmi resides in Vishnu’s heart, so whether you pray to Goddess Vishnu or Lakshmi, it's the same. Shiva has given half of his body to Parvathi, and became Ardhanareshwar. So, praying to Shiva or Shakthi is one and the same.
Lord Kartikeya is Shiva's ansh, and is six faced, the 5 faces represent the 5 elements of nature, that is of Shiva as the Bhootanaadha, and the 6th face represents goddess Shakti. Lord Ganesh is Shiva's ansh. He has all the qualities of both the parents. (of course Ganesh is given the first offering of any prayer). Lord Hanuman is Shiva's ansh ( form / child / possessing few qualities of Shiva).
"Jagatpitrau Vande Parvathi Parameshwaram", this means I bow to you, Parvathi and Shiva, the mother and father of this entire universe. Lord Ayyappa ( Ayya+ appa= ayya means Shiva , Appa means Vishnu) is born from the union of Shiva and Mohini, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. I am telling you with my own life experiences with Lord Shiva. He will never let you down.
God Shiva did not set any protocol for His worship, Since He is pleased in whatever way you worship Him with love, trust and belief. Just chant His name or the Panchakshari Mantra “Namah Shivay”, live according to Dharma and help the needy, these are enough for God Shiva to be utmost pleased with you. If you want to worship Shiva especially on Mondays at home, the simple procedure is to do Abhishek to Shiva linga with water, since Shiva is Abhisheka_priya ( one who loves Abhishek).
Place Shiva linga in a small bowl. Take a glass of water and mix little sandalwood powder in the water. Chant Shiva Ashtotra ( 108 mantras) and do Abhisheka to the Linga, if you are not able to chant mantras, then simply chant Om Namah Shivay. After the Abhishek, wipe the Shiva linga dry and apply kumkum and decorate Shiva with Bilwa leaves and white flowers. Light the lamp and offer naivedya to Shiva.Do few minutes of meditation sitting in front of Shiva. Later eat that naivedya as prasad. If possible chant any Stotras of Shiva in the evening when you light the lamp in front of Shiva. Om Namah Shivay.
