Shravan Month

According to Hindu calendar, Shravan is a fifth month in the year. For Hindus Shravan is considered as a holy month. Many festivals are celebrated in Shravan month. Shravan month begins on all new moon. During the month of Shravan people of Hindu religion do fasting a lot. Everyday of Shravan month is dedicated to different God such as Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva similarly, Tuesday is dedicated to goddess that is Mata Parvati and so on. Shravan month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees of Lord Shiva visit the temple and offer milk and sweets to the God.

History

As per the Hindu mythology, at a time of Samudra Manthan,? the poison that is halahal which came out during Manthan was drank by Lord Shiva to save the earth from the harmful effects of Halahal. Therefore, in order to honor the sacrifice of lord shiva all his devotee's perform prayers and other rituals throughout the month. One more mythological incident was of Mata Parvati, who performed a penance in the month shravan of Sola Somwar in order to have Lord Shiva as her husband after that Lord Shiva got up from his meditation and blessed Mata Parvati and fulfilled her Desire.

Prayers and Rituals in Shravan

?In this month Rudrabhishek Pooja is performed by many devotees in Lord Shiva temple. It is believed that this Pooja is for our physical and spiritual well-being.Devotees Who pray to Lord Shiva are blessed with good health. People also do 16 Monday Vrat that is "Sol Somwar Vrat" which is performed to fulfill any kind of wish and desire by our merciful and kindness Lord Shiva. This fast of Sola Somwar is considered to be fruitful fast of all other fastings. People Chant mantras and offer water and milk on the Shivling which is also considered to be the most auspicious prayer.

Do's and Don't in Shravan

Hindus strictly follow the Shravan month by not cutting hair and nails. In the month of Shravan, people do not consume meat,? egg and fish. Men also do not shave for the whole month if they are on the fasting.

Many festivals are celebrated in this month such as Nagpanchami, Dahi Handi, Raksha Bandhan, which are all Hindu festivals. People do celebrate all this festivals with great joy and enthusiasm. All this festivals bring the family together in order to make the festivals a grand celebration. During this festivals societies as a whole forgets about all grievances, disputes and quarrels and unite to celebrate the festivals with great fun and joy!!
