Showing Up.
How are you showing up?

Showing Up.

That’s 99% of success right?

Let’s assume it is. After all, to do anything or be anywhere you indeed have to be there.

So, we have 1% to contribute.?

Let’s allocate that to HOW you show up…

Some Thoughts.

Let's dive into a topic near and dear to my heart: how you show up. Now, I'm not talking about arriving fashionably late, although punctuality does matter! I'm talking about the energy you bring, the vibe you exude, and the aura you project when you walk into a room, hop onto a zoom call, or meet a client for a coffee chat.

Picture this: you stroll into a networking event, your tailored suit or chic dress perfectly complementing your confidence. Your smile is as radiant as the California sun (or the Chicago skyline, depending on where you're reading this from). You greet everyone with genuine warmth and a firm handshake (or an enthusiastic wave if COVID protocols wrecked the ability to engage for you).?

Now, contrast that with slinking in like a timid kitten, eyes darting nervously, palms sweating like you just stepped out of a sauna. You mutter a weak "hello" as you shuffle towards the nearest wall, desperately trying to blend into the wallpaper. Which scenario sounds more like you?

Here's the deal: how you show up sets the tone for every interaction, negotiation, and deal you encounter in the world (and beyond). Talking about real estate, clients aren't just buying a property; they're investing in YOU. They want to feel confident that you're the rockstar agent who's going to guide them through the wild rollercoaster ride of buying or selling a home.

So, what's your energy signature? Are you radiating value like a beacon of real estate wisdom, or are you emitting vibes of uncertainty that could make even the boldest buyer hesitate? What’s your “walk out” song? Mine? Still Dre by Dr. Dre, same as my ringtone.

Let's break it down:

Confidence: Imagine the swagger of a top-tier athlete strutting onto the field, ready to dominate the game. That's the level of confidence you need to channel. You know your market inside and out. You've done your homework, crunched the numbers, and honed your negotiation skills. You're not just an agent; you're a real estate Jedi, wielding your expertise like a lightsaber of property prowess.

Value: What sets you apart from the sea of other agents clamoring for your clients' attention? It's not just about selling houses; it's about providing unparalleled value at every turn. Maybe it's your in-depth knowledge of local neighborhoods, your knack for staging homes like a HGTV pro, or your ability to navigate the murky waters of contracts and paperwork with ease. Whatever it is, own it, flaunt it, and let your clients know that they're getting more than just a transaction; they're getting a VIP experience.

Humor and Sarcasm: Let's inject a little levity into the mix, shall we? Real estate can be stressful enough without taking ourselves too seriously. So crack a joke, sprinkle in some sarcasm, and show your clients that you're not just a robot spitting out listing details and market trends. You're a human being with personality, charm, and a killer sense of humor (even if your dad jokes are a little cringeworthy).

At the end of the day, how you show up matters. So, whether you're rocking a power suit or your favorite pair of jeans, remember to bring your A-game, radiate value and confidence, and sprinkle in a dash of humor for good measure. Your clients will thank you, your colleagues will admire you, and your deals will close with the smoothness of a perfectly staged home. Now go forth and conquer, you magnificent real estate mavens!

How one shows up and how to enhance it.

Step 1: Reflect and Assess

Take a moment to reflect on recent interactions, meetings, or networking events. How did you feel going into them? How did you perceive yourself during those interactions? Were there any moments where you felt particularly confident or uncertain? Were there any recurring patterns in your behavior or energy levels?

Step 2: Seek Feedback

Don't be afraid to ask for feedback from trusted colleagues, mentors, or friends. They can offer valuable insights into how you come across in different situations. Ask for specific examples of when you've shown up exceptionally well or where there might be room for improvement.

Step 3: Identify Strengths and Areas for Growth

Based on your reflections and feedback, identify your strengths—the qualities or traits that you consistently bring to the table and that contribute positively to your interactions. Also, pinpoint areas for growth—areas where you may feel less confident or where feedback suggests you could improve.

Step 4: Set Goals and Take Action

Once you have a clear understanding of your strengths and areas for growth, set specific, actionable goals to enhance how you show up. These goals could range from improving your communication skills, boosting your confidence in certain areas, or refining your personal brand.

Step 5: Practice Mindfulness and Presence

Mindfulness techniques can help you become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. By practicing mindfulness regularly, you can cultivate a greater sense of presence and authenticity in your interactions, which can significantly impact how you show up.

Step 6: Continuously Learn and Adapt

The journey of self-improvement is ongoing. Stay open to learning new skills, seeking feedback, and adapting your approach based on new insights and experiences. Embrace a growth mindset, recognizing that every interaction is an opportunity to learn and grow.

By following these steps and committing to a process of self-awareness and continuous improvement, you can enhance how you show up in various situations and ultimately achieve greater success and fulfillment in your personal and professional life.

Action Items:

Daily Reflection Practice: Set aside time each day to reflect on your interactions, both personal and professional. Journal about your experiences, noting moments where you felt confident and moments where you felt less so. Ask yourself what contributed to those feelings and what you can learn from each situation.

Seek Feedback from Trusted Sources: Reach out to colleagues, mentors, or friends and ask for specific feedback on how you come across in different situations. Request examples of times when you've shown up exceptionally well and areas where they believe you could improve. Take their feedback to heart and use it as a guide for growth.

Practice Mindfulness Techniques: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to cultivate greater self-awareness and presence. This could include meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply taking moments throughout the day to pause, observe your thoughts and emotions, and ground yourself in the present moment.

By implementing these action items, you'll be well on your way to understanding how you show up and taking steps to enhance your presence, confidence, and impact in any situation. Remember, small consistent actions lead to meaningful growth over time.
