Showing Off With Someone Who Can Help You? - Javnyuy Joybert

Few days ago a friend reached out to me to find out why I was not at a particular event he was expecting to see me.?

I replied "I wanted to come but did not have the money to fund my trip and hotel".?

He replied and said "Ok. I was really expecting to see you"

About two days later he sent me a message saying;?

"Something struck me in our last conversation. The way you boldly said you could not come for the event because you did not have the money. If I was the one I would use work or claim to be busy and not be that direct so I could show off or try to impress you or not show that I did not have money. I live my life to please people but you have taught me an important lesson that has liberated me. Many times when I am making decisions my main parameter is how will this impress people. I was living in prison"?

I replied "There is no reason to show off. I could be showing off before someone who can help me ahaha"?

He continued "I kept asking myself that despite your popular personality you frankly said you did not have money to fund that particular trip then who am I?"?

I replied "I choose to be real to myself and do what I can. It is not about me showing off or seeking to impress, it is about living sustainably"?

Live an authentic life. Be authentic. This is highly underrated, especially with the coming of social media. Everyone wants to show how they are doing well in public.?

Being authentic means coming from a real place within. It is when our actions and words are congruent with our beliefs and values. It is being ourselves, not an imitation of what we think we should be or have been told we should be. There is no “should” in authentic.
