Showcasing Scotland's energy transition strengths in the UAE at ADIPEC
Scottish Enterprise
Putting businesses at the heart of everything we do, our focus is on innovation, investment and international.
As we begin the build-up to COP28, the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi this week was the first of several events for us to highlight Scotland's leadership in decarbonising energy systems and identifying ways to help the world reach net zero.
Our annual presence at the world’s largest gathering for the energy industry, led by our Scottish Development International (SDI) team, gives us the perfect opportunity to highlight Scotland's strengths in delivering energy transition innovations. And this year we showcased 24 companies on the Scotland Pavilion, with their latest Scottish innovations and solutions for decarbonisation and offshore renewables.
With COP28 being hosted in the UAE later this year, we were particularly delighted to host a visit from His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, COP28 President-Designate, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE.
His Excellency spoke with the team from Mocean Energy and was keen to understand more about the scalability of their wave energy converter, their technology development plans, vision and future investment opportunities.

Mocean also had the opportunity of presenting to His Excellency Omar Ahmed Suwaina Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, who visited to understand the role of the firm's technology in the energy transition.
Ian Crossland, Commercial Director, for Mocean Energy, said: "The team is delighted to be back at ADIPEC once again. It’s a great opportunity to showcase our technology, which we presented last year. We were asked to come back, which is a great compliment. We are building on our experience to make this year’s ADIPEC an even greater success."
Riley Smith, General Manager UAE at Xodus said: "We've been having a lot of success in decarbonisation in the Middle East and are encouraged by the fact that the region has been so interested and is keen to learn from what we've been doing in the North Sea in the UK. It has been great to be at ADIPEC and furthering those conversations."
Commenting further on their time on the Scotland Pavilion this week, Mike Allan, Principal Consultant at Xodus Group, said: “In the last few days we had planned meetings and impromptu discussions with ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, Inpex, Petronas, Wintershall dea, BP and many more. Six months BD in 4 days is great but the quality of the conversation was on point too.
“We couldn’t have done it without the support of Scottish Development International who hosted us and worked tirelessly on our behalf. Get on their stand in the future but don’t take our space.”
