Show up every day, on time – Be Consistent #013

Tick.?

Tock.?

Why should time matter more to you than anything else? Because it is the only thing you can never replace. Inside of every day there are finite minutes and you need to show up to make the time work to get everything accomplished. ?

Inside every 24-hour day you need to build your relationships, career, fitness, spirituality and find the time for learning (collectively known as the categories). Anyone who tells you it’s easy should be ignored. It is not easy. But it is a tool that you can and should improve every day to live a life full of fulfillment. After all, time is the only resource on the planet that is not replaceable.?

This week I am starting a 3-part series on how to manage you so you can get the most out of your day. This week focuses on YOU. How you can squeeze a few minutes out of you so you can get better results in your categories.?

Here are 5 ways to find the time to get it more?done:?

Pick a time to wake up every day and set your alarm (do NOT snooze...)?

Pick an obscure time to wake up in the morning. For example, I wake up at 03:53 when I am in my normal routine, or 04:23 when I am off routine.?This obscure time will index a different relationship with your brain that will allow it to download into a habit faster. If you set your clock for 04:00 your brain is programmed with a perception that time is too early and rejects the habit formation. ?

When your alarm goes off, roll out of bed and embrace the morning. Jump into a passion project you are working on. Grab a workout. Go for a walk/run etc. This time is not for you to give to someone else. This is time for you to dedicate to nurturing something for and inside of you. ?

Action items for waking up:?

  • Pick an obscure time to wake up every morning and set your alarm to recur M-F?
  • Spend the first week determining your passion project to dedicate your morning to?
  • Capture the high level of your passion project in your 960 Momentum Journal??

Schedule your workout on your calendar – plan it out in advance?

It has been said that the best exercise is the one you will do. It makes no difference at the beginning of a program what workout you do, only that you do it consistently. It can be walking, running, weights, yoga, body weight exercises, or anything else that can fill the blank. Put the time that you will work out on your calendar and set a notification 10 minutes before your scheduled time. ?

Build a plan on Sunday for the structure of your daily work out. If it is a 30-minute body weight routine, write out what exercises you are doing and how many reps and sets for each. Add up your total reps, multiply by 4 seconds, and ensure you are in your time window. Then show up consistently so you can see the results.?

Action Items for working out:?

  • Decide what you want to accomplish with a fitness program?
  • Write out a plan each week of your workouts?
  • Track your success to show up?

Set up your clothes in sequence – grab and go, no thinking?

It is important to take the guess work out of your clothes. Yes, there are days that your clothes reprogram the feelings you have inside. Embrace those days, but shape them into the exception, not the norm. For all the other days, line up your outfits for the week along with the out-of-sights so in the morning you do not need to make a decision on what to wear.?

Action items of clothes selection:?

  • Prepare all your clothes for the week over the weekend (washed, ironed, hung in the closet)?
  • Line them up in order for the week (tops, bottoms, shoes, etc.)?
  • Set up your backup plans for the other days (have them ready to go)?

Plan your food for the week – prepare it over the weekend or each day?

There is a myth floating around in the world that cooking and meal prep is time consuming. It can be if you are making complex foods, but you don’t need to eat that way daily. Daily food prep should not take longer than 10 to 20 minutes every day. You may need to dedicate some time over the weekend to enable your success in the 10–20-minute window, but the results of a healthy, well-planned diet are numerous. ?

Planning for your success is the key to this. You will need to look at what you like to eat and what you can add to improve your daily diet for success. Good energy in helps stoke the fire of your success. The benefit will show in your energy, skin health, mental fortitude and a cornucopia of other ways. ?

Action items for meal prep:?

  • Create a meal plan for the week – plan out all meals and serving sizes?
  • Build a shopping list and purchase all needed items?
  • Schedule time to meal prep daily or weekly as you need?

Put a time block on your calendar to connect with those important to you?

If it isn’t on your calendar, it isn’t happening. I know it feels awful when you look into your child’s eyes and know that you will miss her soccer game if it isn’t on your calendar. But it is a reality to many parent-preneurs. Building your business is a very full-time job. But not at the expense of your family and friends. ?

This is not the pie-in-the-sky paragraph to guilt you into the belief that you need to be at every single event. You need to be at the ones you commit to. My wife and I would rarely show up for practices, but we would show up for games. If a practice could be folded in, we would do it. Once you commit to attend, put it on the calendar and manage every competing distraction so you show up. Showing up is the decision that will make the greatest long-term impact on your fulfilled life. ?

Action items for showing up:?

  • Make a list of all of your non-negotiable events (you will always show up)?
  • Make a list of all your never gonna happens?
  • Calendar all events on your non-negotiable list and set time blocks on either side to account for commuting times?

TL;DR?

There you have it. 15 action items to help you squeeze more time into your day while getting a workout, eating healthy, waking up consistently, getting dressed, and showing up for your loved ones. Put all of these into play this week and see how your life becomes more enjoyable. These suggestions can easily add an hour into your day without giving up your other commitments. ?

Start today. Let me know how you used your energy to make more time available in your day – fill in this form?

There is no need to pursue work-life balance. It is not important to put the same amount of each on either side of a scale. But, when both work in harmony, you feel better. You perform better. You show up better. You build better relationships. You set better boundaries. You complete work effectively. You coach your daughter’s soccer team. You go for walks with your spouse. You remember client’s birthdays. You sleep amazingly. You wake up refreshed. And most importantly, you give yourself praise for being great at everything you do. This is the 960 Method.?
