The Show must go on – how we established “Work From Home”!
It is now common knowledge that the Global spread of COVID-19 has truly changed our business landscape forever. With the sudden and large scale implementation of lockdown measures across the Country, the proposition of business continuity is aggressively challenged.
It is a giant existential crisis, the likes of which our industry has never seen before!
In such a scenario the challenges are manifold - no standard tool across Clients, non- availability of scalable infrastructure and data security concerns. Simply put, most businesses were caught on the wrong foot and had to improvise to survive!
But everything cannot stop just because we have a virus in town - esp. when you're catering to essential services like Hospitals, breakdown services and Telecom!
The key to salvation in these trying times is technology and how we can adapt it to allow business continuity, in a WFH scenario - at acceptable levels of productivity and limited interruptions.
At Altruist Technologies, we were slightly ahead of the curve in a lot of respects. Challenges while plenty, were addressed in a timely manner. The entire organisation rallied together to create a viable solution that could be scalable and quickly implemented.
We scaled up our VPN network and remote working infrastructure, where assets could not be shifted to the employee location, various BYOD (Bring your Own Device) solutions were implemented. The Operations team reached out to the Clients to propose changes to the SOPs and modify CRMs to restrict access to enable only the required fields. A quick assessment of businesses that need to operate remotely was made and the ones that could were enabled in record time.
But admittedly, it is early days yet, and a complete assessment of remote working will be done. Some say, that this 'new normal' might just become standard practice, at least for a few of us even after the current crisis is resolved.
Organisations that have the resolve and capacity to continue to deliver value, while working remotely and keeping their employees safe, will not only survive but thrive!
By then, we may just get used to the cooker whistling in the background on conference calls!
