Show Home Virtue
We often live our lives in pre-formed patterns, both emotionally and physically, amongst other expressed in how we choose to create our living environment, often quickly becoming predictable, even static. Finding some element of the unexpected in how we see ourselves and how we choose to live, influences so many aspects of our life. It is beneficial to ask: what does this space want??The answers might surprise, maybe even help opening new possibilities in how to arrange our everyday.
This house is a show home project, a proud quality build where the interior underlines the character of the building, to be light, easy and personal. The interiors were decided from drawings only without having seen the site during the Pandemic, why a sense of the building could only be imagined, and I hope, we got its character reasonably right, allowing for it to shine.
We think, it is up to us to decide what a space should tolerate, while in fact, if we ask space how it wants to resonate, it will tell us, and if we follow the notion, the space will come alive to its full strength and by doing so automatically empower the user. This is why some spaces feel off while others support us to be able to thrive in life, thereafter come decisions of personal preference, style, etc.
I brought such contemplation also to this project. Show home interiors come at a strict budget, still, the aim is to signal style, relevance and quality. It was a highly enjoyable project as I was given much freedom by the developer. We wanted to use a minimal amount of furniture to let the space ‘breathe’ while giving it a personal connotation, a sense of presence and warmth, supporting the architecture, promoting quality and ease while allowing room for the future owner’s personal expression.
The building project run through the two-year Pandemic with great delay, all interior design choices were made off site which made it a bit ‘nervy’ to get it delivered after a long storage period, to finally see how all would present itself in the space at hand. A show home has to capture the imagination of the many while still being its own, a fine line to walk. Most of all we tried to give it its own character but still leaving room for more. All in all, the home was built for a family to be enjoyed for many years to come and I hope the house is pleased with the result.
