Show, Don’t Tell

Show, Don’t Tell

Case studies.

Have you ever wondered why it’s important to include them in your presentations?

Well, it’s because people believe what they see…

But doubt what they hear.

For example…

You might be completely honest when you tell your audience you’re an expert at what you do…

And they’d still doubt it unless you provide some sort of proof to back it up!

So, you want to imply expertise by telling them about a past experience you had…

When you perhaps provided high-level service to a client who needed help.

Here’s another example:

During your speech, you might want to tell people that you are just like them.

Meaning, you’ve been in the same situation they’re in right now.

So, you understand the challenges they’re facing…

And you know exactly how to help them out of it.

But people will have a hard time believing that unless you tell them a story about your past.

A story that will illustrate how you’ve gone through the same experiences…

Or implies how come you know how to help them…

Remember, it has a lot more impact when you let your audience draw their own conclusions…

…instead of feeding it straight to them.

So, instead of telling them that you’re an expert…

Show them past results you’ve achieved.

Instead of telling them you’re better than the competition…

Show them some numbers proving the same.

And instead of trying to tell them that your business is worth a try…

Show them compelling evidence that gives them the same conclusion.

After all, the same timeless rule works well in speaking as it does in writing:

Show, don’t tell.

Cheers,

Carmen
