A Shout Out to Two Great Heroes

One year ago today a deranged man, armed with an assault rifle opened fire on at least twenty members of congress who were practicing for a charity baseball game. Four people had already been shot before capital police agents David Bailey and Crystal Griner rushed onto the field with nothing but pistols and took the gunman down. Because of the bravery of these two young people, a major massacre was avoided and our democracy remained unblemished.  

I’m so proud of both of these two great American heroes. And I’m especially proud to have a personal connection with David Bailey— He is an alumnus of my great school, North Carolina Central University; and also, he is a member of my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, which has a history of producing great American heroes.

Agents Bailey and Griner, thank you for your courage.
