Shout out to all social media users!
Probably a lot of you already know that this have been really serious times regarding online fraud schemes.
Because of what is happening and seeing so many people becoming victims, I really want to mention and remind to people that cybercrimes are still happening! Everyone of us should be aware of that and watch out that we don’t become a victim of these false ads, where they - for example - offer products or services that are way below the market price, even in times of crisis.
Here are a few basic tips for you on how to avoid online scams and help to prevent it from happening to others, including your family and friends:
Remember, no matter what you order or sign up for, check:
- a few other places and see if the prices are at least a bit similar to the one in your ad (watch out for too high or, in most cases, too low prices).
- in some search engines, like Google, and check what the reviews for it are and what other people's experiences are.
- their webpage and look:
- If they have https (secured by SSL certificate) instead of http. Https protects sensitive information like your personal and credit card information. Without https the information is not protected and easily accessible to cybercriminals.
- for suspicious/ lots of pop ups.
- for unprofessional mistakes - e.g. Spelling and grammar
- for redirecting - if by clicking on/in the website you get redirected to other unsure sites.
If this was useful for you or if you already knew it, please share this in order to help others avoid being cybercrime victims.
