Shouldn't we all have a choice?
Adhesive bandages are ubiquitous in our world today, routinely applied to minor wounds; however, this has not always been the case. Before 1920, the only way to dress minor wounds was with a bulky gauze bandage secured with adhesive tape.
This changed when a cotton buyer from Johnson & Johnson and his accident-prone wife stumbled onto an idea. To help his wife, he made some ready-to-use bandages by placing squares of gauze covered with crinoline fabric on a strip of adhesive tape. After discussing this idea with his boss, the Band-Aid Adhesive Bandage was born. It was a very simple idea but filled an unmet need in consumer care.
That was almost 100 years ago, but adhesive bandages are still only produced with a single, light, so called “flesh tone”. Our world today more than ever is a melting pot of ethnic groups, cultures and races. Most consumers would rather have their skin bandage blend inconspicuously when applied. With diversity in races comes diversity in skin tones, yet this has not been addressed. Consumers today would like to be acknowledged as unique and valued for their individuality. Such a simple item can be so self-affirming for a person’s sense of being. The single-color tone bandage, originally created for one specific group, can no longer apply to all consumers. Thus, the concept of “Diversity in Healing” was embraced.
Tru-Colour Bandage Products is now addressing this unmet need. We offer latex free, 100% cotton, flexible, breathable fabric bandages in 4 different skin matching tones, including a lighter shade. We embrace ALL skin tones. Now available at Target stores nationwide, as well as online at Target.com, Amazon.com, and Faire.com. Shouldn’t we all have a choice?
