On February 2, 2023, I self-published my first new eBook for 2023, Branding and Marketing for the Rest of Us: Targeted Strategies for Independent Authors and Creative and Solo Professionals. I have owned my own independent publishing company since, 2012, so editing, formatting, and publishing the final draft I completed on January 31, 2023, was pretty easy for me.

Over the years I have published over 350 titles for clients, and I published another book in 2018 that I will be updating later this year. Now, except for a couple of ongoing clients, I only publish my own books and those of my husband/business partner.

I write nonfiction, and my husband writes fiction. Both of us really enjoy all of our writing opportunities.

I know of a few solopreneurs who write both; one business expert I follow writes her business books under her own name and her fiction novels under a pseudonym.

Because of the other components of my business, I don't have time to be a full-time writer, but my books have been and will continue to be an important product offering for my audience.

I plan to publish a valuable and helpful ebook every month, and complete and publish (3) full-size print books this year that I will also publish in ebook and audio formats. Whew!

Should YOU write a book?

Writing a book can be an incredibly rewarding experience for creative and solo professionals. Not only does it provide an opportunity to share your valuable expertise, but it can also help you to build confidence. Here are some of the top reasons why you should consider writing a book:

  1. Share Valuable Expertise - Writing a book is a great way to share your knowledge and expertise with the world. By sharing your experiences and insights, you can help others learn from your successes and mistakes.
  2. Create Change in Your Industry - Writing a book is an excellent way to create positive change in the world. Whether you’re writing about social issues or providing advice on how to run a successful business, your words have the potential to make a difference.
  3. Grow Your Confidence - Writing a book can be an incredibly confidence-building experience. It gives you the chance to prove yourself as an expert in your field and show off your skills in one concise place.
  4. Enjoy Your Creativity - Writing a book allows you to express yourself creatively and explore new ideas that may not have been possible before. It’s also an opportunity to practice storytelling and hone your writing skills for other parts of your content marketing.
  5. Leave A Legacy - Writing a book is a great way to leave behind something that will outlive you – something that will continue to inspire generations after you’re gone!

Writing a book is not easy, but there are ways to get it done.

Writing a book can be an intimidating prospect for writers who may have limited resources and experience. However, with the right tools and guidance, it’s possible for you to write a book that is both impactful and successful. Here are some tips for you if want to write a book:

  1. Choose Your Topic - Choosing the right topic for your book is essential. Consider your expertise, what you’re passionate about, and what people need help with. This will help you find something that resonates with both you and your audience.
  2. Map Out An Outline - Once you’ve chosen your topic, create an outline of all the key points that you would like to cover in your book. This will help ensure that all the important points are addressed in an organized manner.
  3. Do Your Research - Conducting research is important for writing any book, but especially for solopreneurs who may lack specific knowledge or experience in the chosen topic area. Doing extensive research will give your work more credibility and provide ample material to draw upon when fleshing out arguments and ideas within the text.
  4. Write Regularly - Writing a book can take longer than expected, so it’s important to set aside time each day (or week) to make progress on the project. Regardless of how busy you are, carving out time consistently will help ensure that your ideas remain fresh and that you stay on track with deadlines. I started this newest book last November, but by January, I changed my writing process and really dedicated the time needed to complete the final draft by my self-imposed deadline of January 31.
  5. Get Feedback - Getting feedback from others is also essential for ensuring success in writing a book as a solopreneur. Finding trusted colleagues or industry professionals who can offer their opinion on your work will help ensure its quality before publishing.

With dedication and focus, creative solopreneurs like you can create books that are meaningful, relevant, and impactful!
