I recently had a consultation call with a new possible client. Near the end of the call she was really interested in signing up for 1:1 coaching, but she had one big concern. She told me that she feels really nervous speaking English, and she was worried that her ability wasn’t good enough to work with a native speaker. She thought it might be better to study on her own, then work with someone like me when her level was a little bit higher and she wouldn’t feel as nervous.

She’s definitely not alone in feeling this way.

A lot of people feel nervous about taking 1:1 classes or working with a native English speaker. The truth is that this nervousness is the exact reason you SHOULD do all these things. Unfortunately, those nerves will never just disappear naturally. They will require some action and bravery on your part. It is much better to face those nerves by putting yourself in those situations now so you can feel more comfortable and confident in the future.

I also believe that in a vast majority of cases people's ideas and fears towards English speaking situations are worse than the situations themselves. Many of my clients who were extremely nervous and hesitant about trying 1:1 classes realize after a few weeks how irrational those fears were and start to actually enjoy practicing and communicating in English.

Sometimes, to get something we’ve never had we need to do something we’ve never done. For a lot of English learners, this can mean finally facing their fears and taking that step to really invest in their English. Studying by yourself at your own pace might be more comfortable, but it will never get you the results you’re really hoping for. The people that actually do become very high level English speakers are always the ones who:

1. Invest in themselves and their own improvement.

2. Don’t let fear/nervousness stop them from reaching their goals.

So, if you’re ready to invest in your own success and finally start becoming the confident, professional English speaker you’ve always wanted to be, contact me today and let’s start moving you towards your goals.

Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your day
