Should you too become obsessive about personal development? Yes!

Amusingly, since past couple of months, I have been coming across people who are often struck with wonder to find me obsessively working on developing my personal self. Well, different people read my progressive practices differently; some consider it as an obvious sign of me grooming up myself in order to find a suiting match, some think I’m being too hard on myself, whereas rest of the people think I’m just becoming too crazy to deal with.
If you happen to have any of the above-mentioned assumptions, then this post is for you. And, of course, this is also for those who can genuinely relate to me and my assertion. Today, I’m going to introduce you to my philosophy of ardently following this new pursuit of personal up-gradation.
You see, these days challenges are becoming tougher and distractions are becoming costlier, what is the solution that we are left with? How must one achieve and maintain the required equilibrium to mindfully deal with whatever that may mushroom-up, in times to come? The solution probably is to pay some attention and dedication to develop the personal self along with the professional self.
Unarguably, we all can benefit from practicing daily personal development. And, trust me the rewards are indeed enormous. If you read through successful people’s lives then you’ll know, every single day they have air in their lungs, they choose to strive harder and smarter to strengthen their physical, emotional, and mental abilities.
Now, if you too find yourself interested in joining this exciting tribe of progressive minds, then you firstly need to empty your mug full of coffee into the sink right away and grab a green juice. Secondly, you need to browse through the below-listed bunch of reasons which collaboratively compelled me to commence the pursuit of personal development.
- Because, it actually worked- Well, you might be thinking that I’m just idealistically preaching, but believe me, I’m not advocating this without having tasted the fruits of personal development myself. The idea actually works provided you work upon the idea with the required amount of sincerity. So, instead of turning to some motivational speaker’s woo-woo chanting, and pretend positive thinking, start acting upon! Prior to commencing the pursuit myself, I actually had an ugly scarcity mindset; the overall clarity of life had started to fade and just then I knew that it was time to change. Thus, I would suggest, that If you by any chance find yourself stuck in a similar situation then following personal development can change you for good, inside out. And, to begin with, you just need to frame a personal development workflow- chart out some milestones and get started with kickass confidence.
- Because, serving others becomes a must- No, I’m not asking you to get into philanthropy, though there are a number of ways to serve the people in our community. Also, I agree that from outside it does appear that personal development is exclusively about you. However, if you spare some time and allow yourself to take a deeper look, you’ll realize that at its core it’s about serving others. It is believed that no community can truly prosper if the majority of its people are down and out. So, if you want to serve others, first get yourself in order. Once you shift your mind to look into the grand scheme of things then instead of settling selfishly for superficial things, you’ll start to think to yourself “How do I attract like minded people to come and change the world with me?”
- Because, progress is addictive- To break down personal development into one piece of information, it would simply be this; it’s essentially about progress. And, once you taste progress you too will get addicted to the idea and the process. So, introspect, plan, and execute- make one small change per day towards your vision. And, as you start to take charge of your life and combat through it happily, you will find yourself enjoying your new addiction of achieving greater heights and victoriously breaking all past records.
- Because, you get to meet cool people- I’m not sure if you believe in vibes, but undoubtedly many others do. There are mainly two kinds of vibes- growth supportive and not-so-growth supportive. Trust me, once you let yourself get to experience an environment where everybody’s emitting growth-supportive vibes then you will never be able to find satisfaction in an environment which is not perfumed with positive vibes. And, each time you will choose a vibrant environment you will get to meet galaxy full of cool people; the ones who out of baseless insecurity do not feel that the chances of their success are dampened by genuinely supporting other people’s journey and efforts.
- Because, you get better equipped to deal with pain- Undoubtedly, nothing at all is absolute in this world and there are a variety of seasons and situational patterns in our lives which collectively influence our overall worldview. And, pain is just another state of mind & heart which all of us experience. Undoubtedly, most people find it pretty difficult to deal with the pain, however, it becomes easier to get through all the pain if you coach yourself to focus on something which is significantly constructive, such as personal development. So, try to convert all your pain into pure gold by letting the pain inspire you for completely transforming your personal self, instead of letting it all make you suffer miserably.
- Because, you get to rewire your brain- Alright, to be honest, our brains have a prehistoric flaw which malfunctions the entire mental software; we always tend to react in a negative manner to almost all the occurrences of our lives, right? How often do you react with laughter rather than simply panicking up? I mean, literally, the default response of our brain to any situation, without intervention, is to think in a negative way. However, when you start to focus on the bright possibilities of sailing through the seeming sea full of challenges, then you not just override the autopilot mode, but also win back your equilibrium!
- Because, your income increases- No, by listing this as one of the many compelling reasons I don’t want to encourage you to make money your driving force for making professional or personal decisions. But, yes, personal development will most probably double up if not triple your income. You see, we all need to keep developing ourselves by learning more and eventually growing out of our restrictive professional domains. Doing so shall gradually result in multiplying happiness and positivity in your life. And, the progressive people will come finding you in order to get along and form a tribe; a tribe determined to achieve the greater good. And, yes the money will follow.
- Because, you start to appreciate what you already have- It is indeed funny, just the way money makes the world go round. And, in fact, it is not money alone; we all want a number of other things and that too in abundance, except the body fat, sugar, and calories. So, basically, this constant craving for a variety of things eventually drives us paranoid and exhausted. So much so that we completely miss out on counting the people we have with us and the things we are already blessed with. But, if you persuade yourself to shift your focus to revolutionizing yourself by putting to use the resources you have, then your life will become really easy and you will actually go on to raise the life performance bar and achieve numerous new things. So, instead of spiraling down, cribbing about all your problems, and eventually letting your potential corrode away, open your eyes and start to appreciate what all you already have.
Now to rest my case, I would just like to share a beautiful quote which I recently came across- “I alone cannot change society for the better. But I can radically transform my own consciousness, overturning the conditioning that limits my potential. We can all do this, one by one. Over time we can change ourselves to the degree that society changes from the inside out. Giving birth to a new way of being. Manifesting our birthright of living in a peaceful and abundant world. Have no fear. Trust yourself. Live your full potential.”- Anonymous
