This holiday season compounded with the stress of the pandemic find job seekers taking a break from job hunting for the holidays. It is already a difficult time of year and juggling the challenges of applying for new positions with checking off the naughty and nice list can increase anxiety ten-fold.
But now is not the time to slack on your job search. The slower time of year for business equals more time for hiring managers to fill empty positions.
It is important to note that contrary to what you may think, companies are still hiring during the holidays. Employers have job openings year-round, including during the holidays and a slower holiday season for some businesses means more time for hiring. It can also mean less competition for available jobs because of the number of job seekers who do take a break from their job hunt.
Should you call it quits until the New Year?
Job boards are full, and employers are hiring. Indeed, Monster, CareerBuilder, LinkedIn have literally thousands of available jobs that need to be filled. Be sure to set up your alerts so you do not miss out on solid job leads.
It is really hard to manage a job search when there are so many other things happening during the holidays. It is easier to focus on the season rather than the job hunt, but if you are a good multi-tasker, you will find less competition for jobs. Keeping your job search going could give you the upper hand for an interview that you may not have got during another time of year.
If you are hired for a temporary seasonal position, you might get to keep it. Companies typically keep some of the temps they hire for the holidays, and you could be one of them if you make a good impression on your employer.
Start dates are negotiable so you may not have to start until after the holidays are behind you.
Do not miss out on good jobs because you have decided to pause your job search. Even if you slow down a bit still be positioned to get hired, and it is always better to get hired sooner rather than later!
