Should you care that you are getting ghosted by recruiters?

Getting ghosted by recruiters can be frustrating and disheartening, but whether or not you should care depends on several factors and how you choose to handle the situation. Here are some considerations and strategies for dealing with being ghosted by recruiters:

Why You Might Care

  1. Professional Courtesy: You might expect professional behavior and timely communication as a standard practice in the recruitment process.
  2. Closure: Knowing the outcome of your application helps you move forward, either by seeking feedback or focusing on other opportunities.
  3. Feedback: Receiving constructive feedback can be valuable for improving your future applications and interview performance.
  4. The Should in a relationship: Check out my friend with Karmascore and see her views on "Shoulds" in a relationship.

Why You Might Not Care

  1. High Volume: Recruiters often handle a large volume of candidates, and not hearing back doesn't necessarily reflect on your qualifications or potential.
  2. Focus on What You Can Control: Instead of dwelling on a lack of response, focus your energy on other opportunities and improving your job search strategy.
  3. Industry Norms: Unfortunately, ghosting has become somewhat common in the recruitment process, so it’s not a reflection of your worth or potential.

How to Handle Being Ghosted by Recruiters

  1. Follow Up Politely
  2. Manage Expectations
  3. Network Actively
  4. Seek Feedback
  5. Stay Positive and Persistent

Reflect and Improve

  1. Self-Assessment: Regularly review and refine your resume, cover letter, and interview techniques based on the feedback and experiences you gather.
  2. Skill Development: Use this time to enhance your skills or gain new certifications that can make you more competitive in the job market.

While being ghosted by recruiters is unfortunate, focusing on your professional growth, networking, and applying to a diverse range of opportunities can help you stay on track and increase your chances of landing a job that’s a good fit for you.

OfferX was created to eliminate ghosting behavior. It is an online platform where offers are released for candidates to accept. If the candidate or the company does not keep up their commitment, they will receive a negative review, which is publicly visible. OfferX is a solution to this ghosting issue.

Thank you David. I KNEW it, or at least I thought it might be what you pointed out, but as you say at the beginning, it is frustrating. I had to READ it: "so it’s not a reflection of your worth or potential." and it was a relief. Thank you very much. And yes, it may have become an industry standard, for all the right or wrong reasons, but that doesn't make it any better. Especially if it were the other side round, I would be labeled as "unprofessional".
