Should You Buy Contact Lists For Cold Outreach?

Last week I had a call with my client. We discussed the problem he had with low open rates for his emails and I tried to find the reason why it could happen.

Content, email addresses, toolkit, deliverability rate — all was fine. But then I asked:

‘From where do you gain your email list?’

‘Well, we bought 5,000 from a freelancer.’

That was the root of the problem.

I know, the idea of buying an email list sounds tempting. Quick, easy reach to thousands of potential leads. But here’s the catch: it could seriously harm your email reputation.

Imagine this: You start off sending a few well-crafted emails daily and see some decent open rates. The first couple of weeks might even look promising.

But by the third week, you might notice a steep drop in open rates, your emails start missing the inbox, and worst of all, your existing clients aren’t getting your messages either.

This is a common trap with purchased lists, and it’s tough to bounce back from.

But don’t worry, there’s a better way to build connections that won’t threaten your domain.

How it should be done?

There are bunch of tools that can be helpful (f.e. Sales Navigator), but the key idea is to collect emails that fall under your ideal customer profile characteristics. This way, you make sure person will be interested in reading your letter, not adding it to spam.

If you're looking to start cold emailing the right way, with high open and response rates, let’s talk.

At Axellerato, we focus on setting up targeted, effective campaigns that maintain high open rates (70%+) and generate engaged responses (1-3%), without the fallout.
