There Should be Jollof in Space

This week, after someone mentioned this to me, I have pondered a bit about it. We should not only have Nigerians and Africans in space. We should be contributing to this technology and how it shapes the future.

I guess you might be thinking, Why do we go to space ? I believe that as humans, when we solve hard problems, we create endless opportunities for innovation and growth or, as J F. Kennedy once put it,

We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people.

Space accelerates innovation; a lot of things you use every day come from or were inspired by space innovation. They were initially invented for space and now used on earth.

Prosthetics

Monitors for Blood Sugar

Solar Cells

GPS

Camera lens

Water Filtration System

Wireless Communication Devices

This week at NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) we hosted Phnam Bagley who is an industrial designer and space architect who designs the future of everything, on and off planet Earth. She is the co-founder of NONFICTION , a company that turns science fiction into reality for a better future.

She spent time sharing about some of the innovative work happening in space with the NIGCOSAT Team. We see a vision where NIGCOMSAT, Nigerians and Africans collaborate to co-create in the space industry.

She spent time with our team, Startups, in our Accelerator program . Sharing from her deep experience teaching creativity and innovation to generals, police departments and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration centers.

Imagine a future where we don't only send astronauts to space, but we are also part of the innovation in space, where the future of space includes Jollof rice!
