Boss: I can’t afford to pay you or anyone else in my company next month, I know what we’ve been discussing previously before you decide to stay and continue working for me, so that’s up to you whether you want to stay working for me or you want to leave. I don’t have enough money, the money that has been gathered by your B colleague will only come only July or even August.
X: I’m completely surprised you told me such things on this meeting, it’s completely different from what we agreed. Well, ok, that’s about what my B colleague has done, but what about the money that already came into the company bank account on the previous month and this month from what I’ve done since I join your company not a long time ago?
Boss: I used it to pay the rent of company building, to pay the company tax, to pay the bills, to pay the salary of your B colleague, to pay CRM, to pay the company software, to pay marketing matters, to pay the online job platforms package, and etc, it has been finished all of it for the company expenses.
X: I’m sorry but it sounds not fair to me. You did spare something for my B colleague even his money hasn’t come yet until now, but not for me. And you’re also planning to spare some money to pay my B colleague but not me. But I’ll try to understand you and your company situation now. What if I can put some more money to the company for next month, will I get anything to my pocket? What about commission for what I’ve done and what I’ve brought to this company? What about the commission for what I’ll do and what I’ll bring to this company? Because I’m not gonna work for free anymore, I put my time my energy my brain I do everything I can bring more money to this company to make this company’s situation better but I don’t get anything until now inside my pocket. I’m sorry but it just—
Boss: yeah sure, I don’t mind to pay your work on commission based for next month.
X: will you also count what I’ve brought to your company during these previous months? Because as per what you said before, as we all heard from you, the money that your company used to keep operating until now is coming from what I’ve done so far.

Boss: no, I will not. I’ll just count for what you do after this meeting.
.........
I overheard this conversation when one of my flatmates had meeting with his team as we’re all still working from home. He was very upset after he finished his meeting, even until this morning, I can tell from his face and the way he talks that the disappointment hurts him so much. He told us, he expected too much from his current workplace, never feel appreciated and valued by his own boss for what he has done so far for the company, how his B colleague keeps complaining or blaming him or anyone else to make them look like they can’t work and to show his boss that his B colleague’s the only one who can work and has the right to get paid. Another funny thing, he also told us that his boss was lying by saying one of his T colleague who joined the company far back before him just being cut by his boss. But no, he knew already that his T colleague resigned due to lack of support from the company and his T colleague also told him that she can find something else with better work environment and better work culture with a good leader and more supportive colleagues. His T colleague also told him, she doesn’t want to be crazy only because of toxic people within the company who often made her feeling frustrated and undervalued, that’s for mental health side. His T colleague also told him, the boss underpaid her salary and even never paid the over time but the boss always wanted her to work more than she’s supposed to do, that’s for the financial side. I’m glad to hear (at least) his work relationship with his other colleagues’ really good, including with his T colleague as he told us that he tried to support her to help her being stronger so she could stay and continue working in the company, until one point, he understood that she couldn’t handle it anymore and she told him that she has decided to resign and leave the company soon. I feel so sorry for her, for his T colleague, if you read this post (after one of your connection like or comment this post), you’re worth so much more, take time as much as you need to heal yourself!
We agreed to use “boss” word because we’re not feeling comfortable to call his boss as a leader. He also asked about our opinion, should he leave the company and look for somewhere else that has the “better” word in every single aspect of the company?
What are you gonna do if you were him?
