Should I be a Hotel Manager?

In our society, being a Hotel Manager still offers great prestige. One of the main reasons Hotel Managers are respected is because they possess a knowledge and skill that many people do not.

Nevertheless, both becoming a Hotel Manager and being a Hotel Manager is not easy. Many Hotel Managers work long hours in high stress environments while handling difficult stakeholders.

If what I mentioned above is all you know about being a Hotel Manager, then you probably have not done enough research to make an informed decision. If you’re a college student or younger and you think you want to become a Hotel Manager, you need to ask yourself numerous self-reflective questions to answer the ultimate question, “Should I be a Hotel Manager?” In the rest of this article, I provide a long list of questions you should ask yourself (and answer honestly) before you fully commit to becoming a Hotel Manager.

Perhaps the Most important questions:

Are you a hard worker?

Do you have the intellectual capacity?

Are you passionate about helping people?

Are you passionate about learning?

Do you have good interpersonal skills?

Do those who are closest to you think that you will be a good Hotel Manager?

Can you handle a position of authority?

Do you work well in a team?

Are you willing to ask others for help?

Are you willing to put others’ needs above your own?

Not as important questions but important nonetheless:

Are you a leader?

Are you good at solving problems?

Are you mentally and emotionally strong?

Do you know that being a Hotel Manager is not the best way to make a lot of money?

Are you ready to handle Guests of all different types?

Do people like you?

Do you like being needed?

Do you like mysteries?

Are you okay with uncertainty?

Is Hotel Management the only thing you can imagine yourself doing?

Are you ready to spend your time with lots of people?

Do you work well under pressure?

Are you ambitious?

Are you trustworthy?

Can you organize your thoughts properly?

Are you able to cope with unfortunate and unwanted events?

Are you good at managing your time?

If the majority of your answers were yes, then the answer to the question “should I be a Hotel Manager” is most likely yes as well.
