Should Christian Leaders Prepare for the Future?

The dynamics of the world is changing at an unprecedented pace in every way. By all accounts the last scenes will be rapid ones. The dynamics of leadership, learning, growth and development seem to be hinged on thinking outside the box. AI (artificial intelligence) is not going away anytime soon. In fact, it is and will become increasingly more prevalent. It is inevitably going to affect every area of our lives.

As a Christian leader in a professional space and also on a more personal level this issue has become very pertinent for me in both contexts. My overarching question is: Should Christian leaders prepare for the future? What are the skills that Christian leaders need to position themself as relevant and proactive leaders in the next 3-5 yrs?

Some scholars and futurists thinkers say we will have to adapt or die. They categorically state that irresponsible leaders do not response to knowledge change. I tend to agree with the last statement. The way I see it, is that Christian leaders have two choices we either ignore it or face the truth. If we choose to ignore it change will teach us a hard and painful lesson.

Understandably, we may feel attacked as humans and so our resistance is more than reasonable. However, no sensible leader or commander goes into a battle unarmed. Soldiers on the battlefield don't let down their guard or sleep on the watch. In fact, they learn all there is to know about the enemy and try to be at least one step ahead of them at all times.

It is my opinion that the Lord will not be shutting the mouth of this lion (artificial intelligence), but if we are open and willing He will make our teeth sharper than this lion and our roar mean something.

Should Christian leaders prepare for the future?

My simple answer is this “If you are slack (careless) in the day of distress, your strength is limited - Psalm 24:10. You have to learn how to survive and position yourself as a leader in the upcoming environment. You have to be sober and alert - 1 Peter 5:8. God is concerned about a lack of preparation. He says, my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge, because you have rejected knowledge - Hosea 4:6.

Besides, which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? - Luke 14:28. Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you - 1 Peter 1:18. Learn the skills that you need to function for the next 3-5 yrs minimum. The skills that carried you this far are not necessarily the same skills that will carry you on.

What are the skills that Christian leaders need to position themself as relevant and proactive leader in the next 3-5 yrs?

  1. Cultivate a basic understanding of AI (artificial intelligence). A responsible and ethical implementation of AI is crucial to ensure a positive impact on leadership and society on a whole.
  2. Learn how AI can benefit your organization or industry. Explore the benefits of AI in your industry or organization. Listen to respected, trustworthy, future thinking experts in your field. the ones who inform, guide and balance the conversation to
  3. Challenge yourself and your network. Be the first one in your niche to turn on the light of preparation for the future. Evaluate what worked before, to see what can be translated into the future and what will need to be discarded.
  4. Conduct an audit to see how you can use data from AI to improve or upgrade: a. your service, industry or delivery. b. decision making c. your customer service experience d. problem solving skills e. efficiency, growth, change and management.

“Always be ready to give an answer to every man that ask you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear - 1 Peter 3:15

Keep ready, you and all your hosts that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them - Ezekiel 38:7

Are you actively upskilling as a leader?

Good morning Doc! Concerning your topic: Should Christian Leaders Trained or Prepare for the Future? I believe in it 100% not with what is happening in today’s society. If they are ignorant of what is happening how will they train those they are shepherding as well as themselves. The Bible tells us that, “We should be Wise as Serpent and Harmless as Doves”. So a lot is embedded in that verse as to how Ministers should be. Another thing is, if ministers don’t feast on the ‘Word of God’, they will have no true ground to stand on? Training takes on the whole truth of God word and with the knowledge and understanding of what is happening along with its challenges, changes also. Leaders cannot close their eyes and minds to the massive changes in technology, AI etc., and believe it’s not necessary. It is most necessary now more than ever. So they need to be trained if they are serious in leading God’s people in the right way as well as themselves.

Indeed ! By planning for the future, we can identify potential risks and devise contingency plans to mitigate them. We can also set clear goals and objectives, outlining the path we need to take to achieve them. This enables us to make informed decisions, allocate resources wisely, and stay focused on our vision.

Thank you Dr. Marcia Thomas Powell. A real inspiring eye opener. In life change is the only constant and we must prepare to adapt or evolve in our growth processes.
