Should Asset Management Be Centralised or Decentralised ?

Whether asset management should be centralised or decentralised has been asked since the beginning of Asset Management (AM) as a structured activity. Many organisations have cycled through these structures, some several times. We have seen both models succeed and struggle. Before considering which organisational structure is best, we can learn from what has worked in the past. The common primary success factors are a good asset management team leader with top management support and commitment over the long term. Without both of these in place, fragmentation into silo’s of finance, maintenance, construction, compliance and knowledge management is the most common result. Often these silos are in adversarial competition for resources with short term horizon of less than 5 years....

5 年This question raises its head in many organisations. True Asset Management would be neither centralised, nor decentralised. And it's not a function or functional unit, but integrated into the functions of an asset intensive organisation. Other orgs that operate on assets which they don't own, will obviously take a different model depending on their service offerings.?

5 年Central or decentralised its just a management decision like in or out sourced. What the real question should be is do we bother to keep the general ledger or can we distribute it i.e. use a distributed ledgers to vertical and horizontally integrate industry with government or asset owners, run smart contracts and #stem the litigious bleeding. Australia is so far behind, our productivity is low, our lucky counties sheep has burned wool. let's innovate get engineers back at the table making decisions with evidence Thanks for sharing hope you are well. #steam to put Art in STEM....
