There’s something about a shot of espresso, as all coffee drinkers know—but as well as waking them up, it’s also combating the biological processes that are linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
An espresso stops tau proteins from forming, and tau clumps are suspected of triggering the start of Alzheimer’s, say researchers from the University of Verona.
In laboratory tests, the researchers discovered that several components of espresso coffee—caffeine and trigonelline, both alkaloids, and genistein, a flavonoid—blocked the growth and spread of tau samples.
