When OpenSource topics started buzzing in IT world, it was a revolutionary thought of reducing IT costs and change the development eco-system into a highly collaborative and global inclusiveness. Now, the IT world, hits another wave of revolutionary thought called Open Data. The Idea is to provide an Open data Marketplace without compromising security and data privacy requirements.

Hortonworks, IBM and Pivotal has been working on Open Data Platform (ODP) for few years and has released their own ODP architecture like ODPi, IBM Open Platform with Apache Hadoop (IOP), which is available on IBM Power Systems and Pivotal HD.

One important advantage in the evolution of the ODP is that it brings new solutions for big data architecture with better Time to market results. For example, by using common Hadoop core platform, enabling new solutions with fool proof tested applications using ODP is quite cheaper and feasible for software service organizations. For Indian IT market, user can use the data platform here to get millions of categorized data and API services to get test data for Big data application testing.

Ecosystem partners do not have to guess which environments to target and customers do not have to ask every participating partner which environments they support. Time to value is accelerated and risks are reduced.

Now there are many industry usecases like Smart cities and E-governance, Credit risk operations in financial industry, Retail marketing and many more which uses Open Data platforms for targeted marketing, trend analysis and product campaign. It also enables “Data as a Service” model of execution in Big data solution architecture driving data to suite the customer requirements on-the-fly.
