No Shortage of Energy

No Shortage of Energy

We're not short of anything in our world. Each crisis is simply revealing a lack of balance in our world. How are we going to restore balance? What's the plan?

If the following article by Seeking Alpha wasn't so sad it would make me laugh: Big Oil wins shareholder support as energy crisis exceeds climate crisis (By the way, Seeking Alpha is an incredible company founded in my hometown Ra'annana)

In a nutshell, "Climate resolutions are struggling to win support?at this year's annual shareholder meetings of major oil?companies, as investors decide that tight energy supplies and big company profits trump climate concerns." Seeking Alpha

My Commentary

I find it ironic that all of a sudden the climate crisis isn't top priority anymore, because a bigger crisis has eclipsed it. So does this mean everyone's going to start giving back the billions of dollars they raised to fix the climate crisis? I doubt it.

The Atlantic wrote about our big problem being the implementation of all this innovation. This was my comment:

But what if you're focused on fixing the wrong problem? Then even all the most efficient implementation in the world will not produce any real progress. We actually have plenty of energy, far more than we really need. We could cut emissions by at least half tomorrow. But the more we have, the hungrier we become, so our thirst for energy will never be satiated, and we will never stop exploiting the planet or each other until we reeducate ourselves and start being humane toward each other. The real story behind all these challenges is not scarcity or abundance, but rather cruelty and greed. To achieve real progress we need to finally understand human nature and why we were designed this way. Then and only then will we have something serious to implement. All the man made ideas of how to fix our problems will turn out to be a huge waste of time, resources and energy - but we'll keep doing it. Anything to not have to deal with ourselves.

Still Guessing After Thousands of Years

So even after thousands of years of development, we're still guessing about how to proceed. We think we're running the show but we're not. We think we can outsmart nature, and so we will learn the hard way. There are much bigger forces at work and we need to start becoming familiar with them.

Despite increased production of energy from renewable sources, and despite the slowdown in car manufacturing, oil prices are skyrocketing. Even though fewer power plants still burn coal, coal prices are skyrocketing, as well. Natural gas prices, too, are going through the roof, and energy demand seems to outpace supply in every country and in every form of energy. Have Earth’s energy sources dwindled so drastically in a matter of months? The answer is no. There is no shortage of energy; there is a serious shortage of decency in human relations. I hope the current crisis will put some sense into humanity’s insane consumption.

The energy crunch indicates that we are over consuming. We are producing too much, throwing the excess production to the trash, polluting the ground, the air, and the water, and then we are complaining that we do not have enough.

The energy crunch indicates that we are over consuming. We are producing too much, throwing the excess production to the trash, polluting the ground, the air, and the water, and then we are complaining that we do not have enough. It is about as sane as killing one’s parents and then pleading for the court’s mercy because I’ve recently been orphaned.

It is time we reconsider everything we produce — how we divide production, profits, and goods, which services are necessary and which are redundant, and most importantly, how we treat one another. The goal of this process should be clear to everyone: sustainability.

It is time we reconsider everything we produce — how we divide production, profits, and goods, which services are necessary and which are redundant, and most importantly, how we treat one another.

Reality is forcing us to take all of humanity and the entire planet into consideration. If we don’t, our entire way of life could collapse.

Since we still do not understand it and insist on running things the way we have always been running them — through power games — we're going to have some tough lessons ahead.

The energy crunch will leave many in dark and cold houses; there will be no gas for cars, and renewable energy will not replace traditional sources so quickly. Ideally we'll start to rethink our values, something we did in earnest during lockdown, and then rushed to get back to "normal" the moment we could.

I know that many people are counting on the promise of renewable energy to solve the energy problems of humanity. I think they are mistaken. There is plenty of energy, far more than we really need. We could cut emissions by at least half tomorrow. But the more we have, the hungrier we become, so our thirst for energy will never be satiated, and we will never stop exploiting the planet or each other until we reeducate ourselves and start being humane toward each other.

We have been behaving like spoiled brats whose parents buy them whatever they want. Now, our parents have run out of money and our childhood is over. It is time for us to mature and conduct ourselves like responsible adults, caring for all of humanity the way a mother cares for her entire family.

Where Will The Good Energy Come From?

The good energy will come from overriding our limited human ego that is only focused on its own benefit - to focus on what's best for the collective. This is the the way we'll get our world back in balance. We're all going to learn how to do this together through the integral method. This is how we'll generate the fuel we need for tomorrow. We'll eventually discover that the only purpose of these crises is for us to learn how to generate this positive human energy.

Focus on Lifting Others

Here is an example of off the charts positive human energy - one person singing his heart out for his country and the world. A person who takes nothing for granted, and is always focused on lifting everyone. I never share an example of one individual but we'll make an exception in this case. Sam Ryder, who rose to fame on Tik Tok during lockdown, took the Eurovision by storm with his rendition of Space Man and larger than life personality. Imagine if every human had so much positive energy to share - imagine what kind of world we'd wake up to tomorrow.
