Short Take: Networking event, Pelosi and Schumer aren't Mexican (no wall), keep Guhle
- President Trump met with Sen. Schumer and Rep. Pelosi and according to them reached another deal, this time to protect childhood arrivals to the United States and increase border security. Apparently, since Schumer and Pelosi are not Mexican, he did not ask them to pay for a wall. He is appearing as a one-term President. Of course, the President was almost immediately Tweeting no deal was reached. https://www.npr.org/…/democrats-say-they-have-a-deal-with-tr…
- It seems common sense has arisen from Irma. The NY Times is asking why television “journalists” need to stand on camera being blown about telling people to stay indoors and avoid such tomfoolery. Viewer tune in with the anticipation of watching NASCAR at Bristol and waiting for the crashes. If common sense arises from Irma, is it bombastic or Bombeckstick. Oh wait, that was Erma. https://www.nytimes.com/…/hurricane-irma-broadcasts-safety.…
- Good, inexpensive meals to go are now available from Rob Schofield of Cozy Catering on Friday night. Pick up is 5-6 on Main Street in Clarence. Check this link for the menu. https://www.facebook.com/CozyCafeandCatering/…
- I can offer praise to a musician two ways: 1) Go back to see him for a second time in 2 months, just because we liked him so much the first time and 2) Let him know his CD, which we bought last time we saw him, rocks. I can say both things about "Davey O" Dave Ostrowski, whom we saw at Gertie’s last night. Good wine. Overpriced appetizer. Book Davey for your house party.
- I didn’t see this until after Wednesday’s Short Take was posted, but the 2 elements of local elections caught my eye: 1) Erin Baker will be on the Amherst council and I think would be with or without her spouse and 2) Brian Nowak, a newcomer and Sanders supporter is on the rise in Cheektowaga, the freshest face since Pat Burke stormed the Legislature. https://www.dailypublic.com/articles/09132017/election-2017
- Bernie Sanders is still out there, tilting at windmills and talking about single payer healthcare. Just yesterday, he said “ If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit.” Oh wait, that was his Delorean. Unfortunately, he still needs a flux capacitor. https://www.npr.org/…/heres-whats-in-bernie-sanders-medicare…
- Tossing around business and social networking ideas for Short Take followers and folks interested in getting together because it’s more fun in person. The first event will be a Short Take First Friday Suds Up! at 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at West Shore Brewing. As for business networking, I am leaning toward 7 a.m. on the 1st and 3rd Thursday, at a location on Transit Road. Thursday details to follow, but we will keep it to one member per category and follow some of the conventions of another group I have never been able to join. https://www.facebook.com/events/133467587277796/?context=create&previousaction=create&ref=46&source=2&sid_create=1027016534&action_history=[%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22bookmarks%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22bookmarks_menu%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22[]%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22main_list%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22dashboard%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22dashboard_filter%5C%22%3A%5C%22upcoming%5C%22%7D%22%7D%2C%7B%22surface%22%3A%22create_dialog%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22user_create_dialog%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A[]%7D]&has_source=1
- WNY Weather: Rain this morning then cloudy, high of 24 (76). Nicer tomorrow, high of 26 (79). Time to plant mums. The nicest ones come from Thompson Bros., Clarence Center and Shimerville.
- Boyd Curiosity: The average Japanese man move 5 times in his life. The average American? 14. Let’s see, counting Utica as one move, I am on my 10th residence, including apartments.
- Past the Jets and with the Panthers solidly in focus, onward, with perspective. Enjoy it while it lasts. https://billsmafia.com/…/buffalo-bills-beat-team-should-beat/
- ”Manchild 99,” otherwise known as Marcel Dareus, the best Bills defender not named Kyle Williams, is saying the right things. Let’s hope he shows up on the field and whacks Cam Newton. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/…/buffalo_bills_dt_marcell_da…
- I want Brendan Guhle in a Sabres uniform from the start. He does not need the AHL. And rest in peace, Jeff Parker, the forgotten part of the Housley/Hawerchuk deal. Oh and make O’Reilly the captain already.https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/brendan-guhle-aiming-crac…/
