A Short Story on Race, Class, & Sports

In memory of my father, Bernard A. Herbert, I am sharing a link to one of his short stories published in the Four Quarters literary journal in 1956, the year I was born.
While rereading it, I was struck by how relevant it is today. It was written in a Queens housing project during his 10th year as a New York City police officer and provides a peek into his thinking six decades ago.

4 年Bill, what a lovely way to remember your dad for all of us who didn't know him. Of course I went right to contributor notes after reading and in the process realized that I'd previously held some old Four Quarters issues...when I was still teaching at La Salle! Thanks so much for sharing this (and belated happy wishes for Father's Day)!
