During our office tea break, my friend (Jose) and I decided to grab a cup of tea at a nearby shop. As we sipped our tea, a frail 70+ year old woman approached us, trying to sell some shaving sets for her livelihood. Though I wasn’t interested in buying, I decided to order a cup of tea for her. She seemed genuinely grateful for the small gesture.
After finishing our tea, we headed back to the office. But my friend, without hesitation, turned around and went back to the old woman. He asked about the price of the shaving set she was selling, and she mentioned it was around 100 rupees. He checked his pockets and found only 100 rupees. Without a second thought, he bought the set.
Curious, I asked him why he bought something he wouldn’t use. He simply smiled and said, “Bro you bought her tea, and she was happy. I thought buying her product would encourage her routine hard work for her livelihood even after 70+ age.” This is the reply he has given to me.
Moral of the Story:
It’s essential to appreciate people’s efforts when we see them working diligently. Many times, a simple gesture of recognition can mean more than just money to those who work hard to make ends meet.
