A short stint at consulting

As I wrap up the final semester of my MS Degree in Management Science at UT Dallas, I would like to highlight an incredible experience from a course on Digital Consulting by professor Gaurav Shekhar . The structure of this course is designed to help students discover consulting from a closer lens and the learnings have been immense helping me evolve both personally and professionally. The past three months have been enriching in gaining a practical perspective of how projects function in the real world, the project management concepts that can be implemented to help businesses grow into profitable ventures and the consulting methodologies that can be adopted to transform a firms decision-making processes. From learning about Agile methods, TOSCA framework, ITIL to driving customer engagements, identifying success metrics, carrying out as is analysis and cost benefit analysis for a client are some of the key areas I discovered through this course.?

I was also given a brilliant opportunity to work on a client project for a period of 12 weeks through which I was able to learn about the construction industry in depth and the functioning of a project and program management function. The role that I played in this project was to understand the constraints and limitations of a small business and help them discover ways to expand in a saturated market through a market analysis on the construction industry, a deep dive on the competition landscape and recommend strategies through a business plan to target profitable industries in 2023 for new business. I learnt about the diverse challenges faced by a growing organization in operations, logistics, marketing and project management and propose strategies to overcome each of the issues.

Brainstorming in a team, researching to gather data points, designing a value and solution based proposal for my client has sharpened my soft skills and evolved my collaborative personality. Through the knowledge gained, I am walking out of this course into not just a more confident individual ready to work on real world scenarios but have also enhanced my business acumen to understand how project management concepts are implemented and helpful in today’s time for growing business efficiently.

I am fortunate to have had this opportunity to work for an amazing company and be able to contribute towards their mission of growing and expanding into the North East Region of Texas. Excited to see how my recommendations help my clients business grow and touch newer heights of success.?
