Short Review of Talking to Strangers

Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell is a book everyone must-read. It had been on my bucket list for some time but I got to it last weekend. Like his earlier bestseller, Outliers, he didn’t disappoint. The book begins with a story of a black woman, Sandra Bland who was senselessly put in jail over a small traffic offence in Prairie View, Texas, in 2015. Three days later she committed suicide in Jail. Gladwell attempts to recreate what really happened but in the process, his story brings to life many issues ranging from politics to social life in the US. But this was not just a Sandra Bland story, he simply uses her predicament as a staging for many other stories on how humanity misunderstands one another. In the final chapter, he revisits the sad story of Sandra Bland and offers life lessons on talking to strangers but he also admonishes society.  Here is the audio version of the book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lco5WQnWQ4
