Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT)
AUT Solutions
Driving Innovation in NDT: Advanced, User-Friendly & Transformative Solutions for the Inspection Industry.
Principal:
Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT) is an innovative advancement in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) capabilities, designed to facilitate indirect inspections of challenging-to-access areas under or inside objects. This technology enables inspectors to perform comprehensive examinations without direct visual access. The SRUT system offered by AUT Solutions provides two modes of operation: manual inspection scans and automated scans with the full line of Automated Inspection Solutions, which offers a 360-degree encoded scan.
With a Modified UT "B" Scan, the SRUT method allows for inspecting a 3-foot-long field, providing a 360-degree view around the pipe. This enables inspectors to effectively examine areas under pipe supports, hangers, concrete penetrations, and soil-to-air interfaces.
Advantages of SRUT:
SRUT presents a non-invasive inspection approach, eliminating the necessity for direct visual assessments. This results in numerous benefits for NDT inspectors, including the ability to review and evaluate scans from multiple items with similar characteristics. By ranking the scans based on severity, SRUT significantly reduces the number of direct visual inspections required, lowering the overall cost of Atmospheric Corrosion Monitoring.
Features & Specifications:
? Inspection distance of 36 inches
? Suitable for thin-walled materials with a thickness of less than 1.00 inches (25.4mm)
? Utilizes low-frequency sound waves to flood thin-wall materials and then captures reflections at interfaces, such as corrosion and pitting

Applications:
The SRUT technology finds valuable applications in various scenarios, including but not limited to:
? Inspecting pipe supports and hangers
? Examining through concrete penetrations, such as those found in vaults or compressor stations
? Assessing soil-to-air interfaces at wellheads and facilities
? Serving as an ideal indirect inspection method for Atmospheric Corrosion Programs
By incorporating Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT) into their inspection processes, NDT inspectors can enhance their capabilities, improve assessment accuracy, and achieve cost-effective and efficient inspections. The flexibility of SRUT allows inspectors to access previously challenging areas, making it an indispensable tool in the field of non-destructive testing.
