A short post about LinkedIn profiles

Simply this; If you are actively looking for a new role, does your CV match your LinkedIn profile? Do you take as much care over your LinkedIn profile as you do with your CV? Does your CV describe an organised, methodical person with a strong attention to detail when your LinkedIn profile has several typos in it?

Do all your employment or contract positions and dates of employment match? Have you updated your LinkedIn profile to include your current or most recent position? If your answer is no to any of the above, then you really do need to address this, as it will simply lead to unnecessary questions and doubts from individuals reviewing your details.

The same applies to your recommendations, updates, comments on other peoples posts and other activity on LinkedIn. Post cat photos and inane mathematical conundrums? Expect to be regarded as a less serious candidate. Have no recommendations at all? Another question mark. There are others you can go to for advice who are far more expert at understanding how to maximise LinkedIn (including some of my connections, such as James Potter (feel free to ask me for an introduction), however from a recruitment perspective , if you are about to start looking for a new role then you need to take some time to check your LinkedIn profile first! I hope this is of some use

Richard Williams Good post. The correct profile posting is not only for getting placement, where it is essential, but in general for appropriate networking opportunities. Thanks

Just as an add on to this - I've had two applications from candidates which, on paper look quite similar. One has a very basic LinkedIn profile (title for current role only, nothing else), no photograph, one connection, no recommendation. The other has a full profile, several recommendations, full history, decent photograph and an appropriate number of connections. Guess which candidate I phoned first.
