Short the Ivy League

After what I’ve witnessed on college campuses over the past 15 years, but particularly in the past 3 months, I’ve become even more convinced that the current model of higher education is anachronistic.

A place that is supposed to foster free speech and the free exchange of ideas has become monochromatic, stifling, and dictatorial. The institution is a shell of what it was, running on fumes, and the lagging perception of the value of college.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe in the liberal arts education, but I suppose I’m a traditionalist in this sense.

But I don’t believe in it in its current format and at its current price point.

The jig is up.

My bet is that more and more people will come to that same conclusion, that many will opt out of colleges, that employers that traditionally required a college degree, will find other ways to assess talent, and that new models, digitally-native, will emerge.

If I could short the Ivies, I would.
