A short glimpse into what AI tools really are
Data Privacy Office Europe
Training and consulting on data privacy according to GDPR and national regulations (UAE PDPL, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.)
A product that analyses the environment and makes decisions on its own to improve your comfort.
Do you think this is AI?
At first glance, the description might sound like it implies artificial intelligence. But in this case we are talking about a thermostat. In fact, such a device is not always 'real' AI. Let's find out what the difference is.
?? What is Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a system based on machine learning that can analyse, draw conclusions and generate results in the form of predictions, recommendations or decisions. Such systems vary in their degree of autonomy and adaptability. However, their presence is one of the key factors that differentiates AI from other complex algorithms.
Back to our question!
A thermostat can measure temperature and change settings to maintain a comfortable climate. But it doesn't learn, adapt to the user's habits or use complex machine learning algorithms. It is simply an automated system that follows a set of rules. Its actions are predictable and limited.
?? Why is it important to differentiate?
Marketing often uses the term 'AI' to promote simple automated devices. This can be misleading. For example, such devices are called 'smart' or 'AI-based' when they have no real ability to learn, adapt or be autonomous.
