A short conversation with Catryna Jackson, Evotix’s Colleague of the Quarter

Can you tell us your name, job title and a little bit about you?

I am unashamedly myself every day. Anyone who meets me knows you meet 100% of Catryna day one. I truly believe that you should not be afraid to be yourself.

What does your role entail?

I implement and configure Assure, Evotix’s all-in-one EHS management software, based on client needs. In addition, I am the in-house environment expert for the environment module and support sustainability project demonstrations and configurations.

What’s the most enjoyable or interesting thing about your role?

I am passionate about sustainability, environment, health and safety, and this is a position that allows me the opportunity to talk about these very things every single day! I also enjoy solving customers’ pain points and helping them find surprise solutions to everyday problems. Being a part of the implementation team has really helped me see our customers’ everyday issues. It’s incredibly gratifying when we solve a challenge together using our platform, Assure.

How did you find your way into the EHS Industry?

I started my career as a water quality chemist. I was approached by a recruiter for a large environmental consulting firm to help them implement a new hazardous substance management system. I loved the work and never looked back!

What is it about Evotix and the culture that keeps you going?

I love to solve problems. Working at Evotix gives me the excitement of having a new “pain point,” challenge or problem to solve for my customers every day. Additionally, I appreciate that you are never alone in attempting to solve any problem or answer any question. My team always wants to help and never hesitates to jump in with amazing ideas. The collaboration and enthusiasm of everyone at Evotix keeps me going especially on those tough days. We all do our best together!

What do you love most about Evotix?

I love the cross-functional collaboration of our Squads. Squads are a group of Evotix employees from various teams across the business that meet weekly to discuss project updates, challenges or just to share knowledge. When I first started at Evotix, Squads really helped me feel connected.

What has surprised you most about working in EHS?

Sadly, that nothing surprises me anymore. Nothing.

What advice would you give to others that might be looking to start their career within the health and safety Industry?

Research the various areas of the EHS industry. There are so many different focus areas of this field. Would you want to focus on worker safety primarily? Maybe you’re more drawn to the occupational health/industrial hygiene aspects of EHS? It really helps to know your interests so that you can target your education and work experience in that direction. I believe in aligning your interests with your work.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?

After a long day, you will find me relaxing on the lanai having a glass of wine or a margarita or an old fashioned... you get the idea.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tacos with Tequila!
