Short Attention Span Book Club: 2019 Top 10 (OK, Four) (Actually, Two)

Short Attention Span Book Club: 2019 Top 10 (OK, Four) (Actually, Two)

New year. New Decade. Time for reflection. Time to block out long stretches of open space on your calendar to ponder.

Nah. Never mind.

But a quick note about the top ten, maybe. Except that there are only four total. Which makes sense. So it'll be four then.

For those of you that have lost the thread, which by definition should be ALL of you, the Short Attention Span Book Club is a figment of my imagination in which many thousands (or perhaps tens) of you join me in drawing business lessons from children's books.

It's fun. And no heavy lifting.

Mike Mulligan and Mary Anne

So, before I lose my audience, the top four:

Number 1. By far. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. Literally thousands (okay, a thousand) people took a look and several took time to “like”. And what an inspiring message for those looking for meaning in their work – ‘follow your gift”. Also known as “get a job”.

Number 2: Rather Distantly, Stone Soup. In which I cleverly make the connection of two unscrupulous (and hungry) scammers who con the townsfolk out of their precious pantry items with ENTREPRENEURSHIP! Clever. Insightful. I’m looking at you Adam Neumann.

Come to think about it, forget about number three and four. The Little Engine that Could? Paddle-to-the-Sea? Who has time?

But, as a bonus for getting to the end of this article: Marie Curie "leaning in" at the council at Solvay in 1911. She and Poincaré appear to be distracted. I like to think they are short attention spanners like us. You know, line up for the picture. Look at the camera. Oh wait...look at this...a new element!

Marie Curie at Solvay, 1911

The first one on the list was great, David. I got a little distracted and didn't read the rest of the post, but I'm sure the other one was good, too.?
