SHOP LOCALLY

Shopping locally has become a buzzword in recent years, and for good reason. Supporting local businesses in your own community has amazing benefits, not just for the local economy but for the community as a whole. By choosing to shop local, you are investing in the future of your own community and supporting the entrepreneurs and small business owners who are the backbone of any thriving local economy.

Where I live in Hamilton, Brisbane, there are many local businesses worth supporting. One such business is Walts.

Walts is a family-owned and operated cafe serving delicious coffee and food to the Hamilton community. The cafe is well known for its personable and friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, and, of course, its delicious food and drinks. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite on the go or sitting down to enjoy a leisurely meal, Walts is a great option for those looking to support local businesses in Hamilton.

Aside from the personal satisfaction of supporting your local community, shopping locally has many other benefits. By shopping at local businesses, you are keeping your hard-earned money in the local economy. This helps to create jobs and drives economic growth, making your community a more vibrant and prosperous place to live.

Local businesses also offer unique products and services that you won't find at large chain stores. This adds character and diversity to your community and supports the creativity and entrepreneurship of local business owners.

Shopping locally also helps to reduce the carbon footprint associated with shipping goods from far-off locations. When you buy from local businesses, you are reducing the distance that goods and products need to travel, which helps to reduce the environmental impact of your purchases.

In addition to supporting the local economy, shopping locally also helps to build stronger relationships and a sense of community.

When I moved into the area 12 months ago, I ventured over to Walts for my very first coffee. Feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the recent change in my personal life (my new unmarried status), I felt immediately welcomed. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the first names of the team on day 1, then before I knew it, the team quickly became much like family to me. Needless to say, I'm a loyal customer and often take any opportunity to share our little local 'secret' with friends, family and even my broader professional network. It's also not unlike me to schedule business meetings at Walts too, bringing new customers into our community, to savour the unique experience of the perfect blend of coffee & connection.

Local business owners are often involved in community events and charitable causes, and they are invested in the well-being of the community they serve. By shopping locally, you are not only supporting their business but also supporting their involvement in the community.

For me personally, the importance of shopping locally cannot be overstated. From supporting local economies to reducing carbon footprints to building community, there are endless benefits to choosing to shop locally. By supporting local businesses like Walts in Hamilton, you are investing in the future of your own community and helping to create a more vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.

What are some of your own favourite local businesses you love to support?
