Shootings in America

Shootings in America will continue as long as we keep blaming the weapon instead of the individual behind it. Since the weapon is to blame, the shooter is not the culprit, just the main character in the incident. As a result, the shooter is seen as another victim, a person who for whatever reason succumbed to the use of a dangerous threat. The shooter then becomes a darling of the media, he gets an expensive trial and three square meals a day for the rest of his life at our expense, and the anti-gun crowd gets a new champion for their political agenda.
With this as backdrop, potential shooters may view these consequences as not entirely negative; For them, the shooting may be opportunity to carry out their ingrained propensity for violence, a chance to retaliate against other people or society for whatever reason, and receive attention and notoriety as a consequence. They may see a lifetime in prison under these conditions as a worthwhile sacrifice.

6 年Indeed. Violence is deeply ingrained in our culture, and Hollywood and the video game industry are constantly stoking the flame.

6 年The individual points like no father, yes valid. However the USA is, and always has been, a culture of violence. There are people within the culture who are kind and peaceful. People - not all - keep voting for politicians who condone and promotes violence. Violence is the behavior of the belief that one is a victim.

6 年Most of it is exactly that. But how could we unravel decades of social erosion, particularly when much of the population likes it this way?
In my view the issue is a continued breakdown in societal norms and respect for human life. It's the society that develops a person who can do the things we see in mass killings. Taking it further, in my view, it is spiritual in nature.
