2022 Skandia Award Seminar: Opportunities and Challenges of ESG Investing

Laura Starks is president of the American Finance Association and one of the leading researchers in sustainable finance. She has been granted this year′s Skandia Award for her research.

Government lending in times of crisis- how insights from Sweden can inform countries' COVID-19 liquidity programs
Sweden’s Global Financial Crisis lending program was the first of its kind to focus on liquidity provision in a crisis. Gustav Martinsson and Christian Thomann together with James Brown at Iowa State University, looked into Sweden's 2009 lending program to evaluate its effectiveness and provide novel insights into how similar policies issued elsewhere during the COVID-19 pandemic will work.
What kind of businesses participated in the lending programs? What did they do with the proceeds and how did the firms fare in the following years after the crisis???
