Are Shivlingas Considered Radioactive ?

Pick up India’s Radio Activity Map and you will be surprised to know that apart from the nuclear reactor of the government of India, the highest radiation is found in the places of all Jyotirlingas. The design of Bhabha Atomic Reactor is also like Shivling.

Jyotirlingas are the divine places of Lord Shiva where he is believed to be residing in different forms. The word ‘Jyoti’ means light, which is also called ‘radiance’, and lingam or linga means ‘sign’ or ‘image’ - Jyotir-linga means ‘Radiant signs of Lord Shiva’.

Some believe that Shivling is nothing but nuclear reactors, that’s why they are offered water so that they may remain calm. All the favourite substances of Mahadev such as Bilv Patra, Aakamad, Dhatura, Gudhal etc. are all nuclear energy soaking.

There are many more theories to prove the point. Lord Shiva is often depicted as performing a special form of dance called the Tandav Nritya or the Cosmic Dance. No other symbol or construction could come closer to the construction of a nuclear reactor than the Shivling. The Shivaling is made up of 2 parts – a cylindrical structure made of smooth black stone and the grooves around the cylinder with a characteristic spout. A pot of water hanging above resembles the water needed to cool down the reactor as it heats up during the energy generation process This water flows out through the spout of the grooves circling the cylinder. Only in Shiva’s temple, this water is not consumed as tirtha (holy water), as it is believed to be polluted with radiations and nuclear waste, and also, no one is allowed to cross the spout during the Pradakshina (Parikrama).

It is also believed that when a scientific neutraliser, Gharund, is placed at the water outlet and the waste water channelled through it, devotees are free to cross the waste water channel to complete the round. This clearly points to the fact that ancient Hindus had devised a scientific gadget by which they could neutralize the atomic waste.

Shiva Temples are always built near water bodies and it is the same conditions applied for a Nuclear Plant..

Do we still have a doubt ?

Please see the radioactive map of India, you will find radiations at all the 12 Jyotirlingas. We all know about Nuclear Reactor, but maybe, we don't know about the oldest Nuclear Reactors in India.

There are 12 main Jyotirlingas in India and there is a story behind the formation of each one of these Jyotirlingas.

Many ancient Lord Shiva temples from Kedarnath till Rameswaram with Kaleshwaram, Sri Kalahasti, Ekambareswar at Kancheepuram, Thillai Nataraja Temple at Chidambaram are aligned in a geographic straight line around 79° E 41’54” Longitude. The distance between Kedarnath and Rameshwaram is 2383 km. This line is also known as ′′ Shiva Shakti Aksha Rekha”, perhaps all these temples have been constructed keeping Kailash in mind, which falls in 81.3119° E.

All these five temples represent gender expression in the 5 elements of nature, the?Panchabhut - earth, water, fire, air and space. Based on these five elements, these five Shivlingas have been installed. The temple for water is in Thiruvanaikaval, fire is in Thiruvannamalai , air is in Kalahasti , earth is in Kanchipuram and The temple for space/sky is in Chidambaram.

THE STORY BEHIND THE FORMATION OF JYOTIRLINGA

In Shiv Purana you will hear an incident that took place thousands of years ago. Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma were discussing who is supreme and that discussion turned into an argument. Then Lord Shiva appeared to settle their argument. To decide the supremacy, Lord Shiva made an infinite pillar of light appear and that pillar pierced through all the three worlds – Akash, Prithvi and Patal. The Lord Shiva then asked Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma to find the beginning or the end of pillar of light and whoever finds it first will be the supreme God.

They both went in the opposite direction but couldn’t?find the beginning or end of the pillar of light. Lord Vishnu admitted defeat while Lord Brahma lied saying he did find the end of the pillar of light. On this Lord Shiva got furious and cursed Lord Brahma – “No one is going to worship you Lord Brahma even though you have created this entire universe”.

In that anger, Lord Shiva infinite pillar of light appeared on the earth at 64 places in the form of Lingodbhava. From those 64 places, only 12 are majors, and they are known as the 12 main Jyotirlingas of India. In each Jyotirlinga Lord Shiva resides in some form of deity and showers his blessings.
