We, at Shiven, make leather jackets. But so do a hundred other companies. They get the leather, they tan the skins, stitch them and export the jackets on the very same flights as we do. What makes us different? Our willingness to uncompromisingly check what we do at every step of the way.?
We check our raw skins for blemishes, stretch-marks and holes before we even begin any sort of processing. This helps us reduce leather waste, water wastage and vegetable tannin wastage. Only those selected few skins that pass our quality check at the initial step are tanned.?
Once the skins reach our tannery, they are stored and preserved under LWG Gold and Silver compliance rules. Then they are washed and tanned by our team of qualified leather technicians with average 2 decades of tanning experience. It is during this process that our management gets involved in random unannounced checks purely for quality objectives. Once the tanning is complete, skins are inspected in 2 rounds by in-house leather technicians before they reach the factory. On arrival at the factory, they undergo stringent heat testing, chemical pH and reaction testing, colour matching, thickness and grade check. Only those skins that pass our OEKO-TEX and LWG standards are allowed into the cutting and stitching process.

Once cut, each skin goes under another round of reviewing by Senior Merchandisers which oversees colours, sizes and quality of leather. At this process, problems such as grain loosening, colour patching and touch-feel issues are corrected or discarded.?
Then the garment goes into stitching under our OEKO-TEX certified supply-chain process where each stitch is overseen by a team of 15 in-house leather experts. Our tailors and other employees work under the latest SEDEX aegis. The accessories are sourced manually, the old traditional way, where our team of Purchase Managers inspects every button, zip or hangtag before sourcing with our internal policy of “accessories are not value additions, but value in themselves”. Post-stitching, the garments go into finishing where they are cleaned, measured, finished-by-hand for the ideal touch-feel by trained and experienced leather masters who have been in the industry for decades.
At this point, the garment is considered finished and ready to be packed for shipping. This is where our Director himself steps in and checks every single garment by hand for the value he promises to our customers and makes sure that not even a single garment is shipped below par. With so many eyes on one product, the value delivered is more than what is promised!
