Shiva is in his abode at Mount Kailash

Lord Shiva is eternal and omnipresent. He is supreme yet most beloved father who watches over His children from human beings to all trees and animals. He resides in every being.Shiva lingam is the formless symbol of lord shiva. From childhood and by hearing many mythological stories we know that Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva where He lives with Divine mother Parvati and other followers.

On the four sides of the Mount Kailash, there are four great mountains- Mandaar, Meru Mandaar, Suparsva Kumuda. The kingdom of Shiva is a complex of a great Pyramid consisting of 100 smaller Pyramids and four major rivers - the Sindhu (British named it Indus) , Brahmaputra, Sutlej & Karnali originate in the four cardinal direction of the great Mountain.

Hindus believe Mt. Kailash to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Like many of the Hindu gods, Shiva is a character of apparent contradictions. He at once the Lord of Yoga and therefore the ultimate renunciate ascetic, yet he is also the divine master of Tantra, the esoteric science that regards sexual union as the most perfect path to spiritual enlightenment.

According to legend, immortal Shiva lives atop Kailash where he spends his time practicing yogic austerities, making joyous love with his divine consort, Parvati, and smoking ganja, the sacred herb known in the west as marijuana, Hindus do not interpret Shiva's behaviors as contradictory however, but rather see in him a deity who has wisely integrated the extremes of human nature and thus transcended attachment to any particular, and limited, way of being. For a Hindu, to make the arduous pilgrimage to Kailash and have the darshan (divine view) of Shiva's abode is to attain release from the clutches of ignorance and delusion.

Kailash is sacred to other religions as well. The Jains call the mountain Astapada and believe it to be the place where Rishabh, the first of the twenty-four Tirthankaras attained liberation. Followers of Bon, Tibet's pre-Buddhist, shamanistic religion, call the mountain Tise and believe it to be the seat of the Sky Goddess Sipaimen. Additionally, Bon myths regard Tise as the sight of a legendary 12th century battle of sorcery between the Buddhist sage Milarepa and the Bon shaman Naro Bon-chung. Milarepa's defeat of the shaman displaced Bon as the primary religion of Tibet, firmly establishing Buddhism in its place.

While the Buddha is believed to have magically visited Kailash in the 5th century BC, the religion of Buddhism only entered Tibet, via Nepal and India, in the 7th century AD. Tibetan Buddhists call the mountain Kang Rimpoche, the 'Precious One of Glacial Snow', and regard it as the dwelling place of Demchog (also known as Chakrasamvara) and his consort, Dorje Phagmo. Three hills rising near Kang Rimpoche are believed to be the homes of the the Bodhisatvas Manjushri, Vajrapani, and Avalokiteshvara.

Contrary to popular claims, the pyramid-shaped Mount Meru is the result of the possessed technical expertise of some superhuman divine beings. According to the Buddhist and Hindu scriptures, around the Mount Meru exist ancient monasteries and caves wherein the holy sages reside in their material and subtle bodies. These caves can be seen by only a few fortunate ones. Every year, thousands of pilgrims enter Tibet for pilgrimage to the holy Mount Kailash. A few make it to the region and a very few manage to finish circumambulating the hallowed peak. As for climbing up the summit, some daring mountaineers have attempted to do so, but with no luck.

Trekking all the way up to the peak of Mount Kailash is held to be a forbidden act among Hindus for the fear of trespassing the sanctity of the mountain and disturbing the divine energies residing there. As per a Tibetan lore, a monk named Milarepa once ventured far enough to reach the top of Mount Meru. When he returned, he forewarned everyone to avoid bothering the God resting high up in the peak. Two beautiful lakes, namely Manasarovar and Raskhas Tal, are located at the base of Mount Kailash. Of the two, Manasarovar, which lies at an altitude of 14, 950 ft, is considered the highest freshwater body in the world.

While Manasarovar has a deep spiritual significance, its antithesis, Raskhas Tal, was born of the intense austerities performed by the demon King Ravana to please Lord Shiva. For its close association with a demoniac entity, the Raskhas Tal Lake is endowed with salty water and deprived of aquatic plant life and marine life. Mount Kailash is believed to be the Axis Mundi aka the cosmic axis, world axis, world pillar, centre of the world, the world tree. It is the point where heaven meets earth. The Google Maps vouch for the validity of this fact.

True to its nature, the water of the holy Lake Manasarovar stays placid whether it is windy or not. Also, its next-door neighbour, Raskhas Tal stays more or less turbulent. Do not be surprised if you find your nails or hair grown by a few millimetres after returning from your Mount Meru trip. Tourists and pilgrims have discovered that the air of this ancient peak amps up the process of ageing! Once a group of climbers of Siberian origin reached ahead of a certain point and immediately aged by a few decades. Shockingly, all of the trespassers died of old age a year after!

Legends of a mythic land or some lost civilisation or some centers where immortal perfect yogis lived has spread throughout centuries and became of interest to philosophers, adventurers, theologists and even… political leaders! It received many names: Shambhala, Shangri-La, etc., and many locations suggested the Tibet plateau, the Gobi desert, the Altai, but the Mount Kailash range is most frequently named. This adventure is one that tops many people’s bucket list. Those who want to climb to the top of it, all of a sudden get set to go in the opposite direction. Those who walked up the mountain, never returned. In fact, there have been no recorded attempts to climb Mount Kailash due to its near perpendicular wall faces and death-defying weather. Its distinct shape of four sheer faces marking the cardinal points of the compass. The peak is very pointed and looks like a pyramid piercing the sky. It was found that it is an extremely difficult task since the mountain is difficult of access and dangerous.

This geographic site is like energy vortices that can either uplift physical and mental states or degenerate the clamber. A visit to Kailash Manasarovar is actually a journey into your inner self. You need an awakened inner eye to see God residing there. But then if your inner eye is awakened then you does one need to go to Kailash at all? Then you can see God everywhere. I came to the conclusion that Shiva cannot be seen but experienced and his presence can only be felt. ?? ?? ??????.??????

Nice share, Kishore Sir. Some trekkers wanted to challenge this fact that Mt. Kailash is the abode of Shiv and tried to climb it, saying - this is just another glacier like Everest. All had some horrible experiences after that. And ultimately admitted that it's not possible to step on that great glacier, the abode of Shiv. At Mansarovar lake, every morning at 4 a.m. or during the Brahma-muhurta, devotees who visit Kailash and camp there, have reported that they saw a pair of bright stars descending at Mansarovar lake to take bath. Well known fact that Shiv-Parvati, as also mentioned in the various Puranas, come down from the Kailash to take bath at the lake. My professor too, who's also a yoga teacher, shared with me that her yog guru (and others) saw that event when they visited Kailash. Usually devotees spend their night either at Tibetan monasteries or such sites, and resume their journey next morning, around the Brahma-muhurta. If they're fortunate they can see that happening.
