Shir moving to a different part of Google

Thank you everyone for your warm wishes regarding my newly expanded role, where I will continue as Strategic Negotiator developing Global Network Infrastructure while also engineering solutions with the Optical Network Technologies Team in Google.

I have been lucky enough to have great mentors and managers who have helped me navigate the different avenues of career development, and I am grateful for all the opportunities that I’ve had over the years.

These last 6 years I have working as part of the Global Network Acquisition Team EMEA as

 ●     Technical Project Manager working on Planning for AMIR (Africa, Middle East, India and Russia), Ukraine, Stockholm, Warsaw and Italy – all very interesting regions

●     Strategic Negotiator, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa markets, while also leading Asia to Europe Strategy

●     There have been adventures in some fun subsea software projects, too

I would like to thank Mark for letting a crazy Engineer develop into a Strategist, and for the opportunity to do so in a critical market like the Middle East. Beyond all the secret projects we work on, I have also been able to work on a few projects that have touched the lives of many, like bringing Google Classroom to Oman, which also meant opening the market to VOIP for the first time, Launch of Google Cloud in Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Other managers and mentors who have been responsible for my growth are: Michael Francois, Pietro Ravasio, Andrew Metcalf

Also for my SN journey I would not been able to do so much if it was not for the guidance and mentoring of Chris George, Julian Manov and the one & only Ed McCormack :)

In my SN journey I have been fortunate to meet and build relationships with a few folks which I will continue to cherish as my role expands. I know I am going to reach out to them always and I hope they feel the same, listed in no particular order:

Etisalat - Mr Ali Amiri, Rashid Ali Ali, Omar Alzaabi, Mohammed Abbas,

Omantel - Johanees Boersma, Sohail Qadir

Telecom Egypt - Seif Mounib, Mohammed Dahshoury, Ali Farhat, Ola Khaled

STC - Hussein Al Najrani, Amartya Konar

OOredoo - Vivek Jhamb

Cellcom - Yael Shoui Meirov

Tamares - Tom Koren

TIS Israel - Doron Sima, Zvika Caspy

TIS - Valentino Giuseppe, Mario Pastori (Still need to go and see the Pope)

Ilevant - Eyad Abu Khorma

Dawiyat - Yuhairil, Dr Sindi, Adel

ITC - Ossama Dassory, Georges

Batelco - Hani Askar

Airtel - Sandeep Maru

Retelet - Diego Teot

The list is longer and if I have missed someone it was not my intention to.

Hope to meet you guys again in some conference face to face as things normalise.

Also on a side note -

Egypt Infrastructure has been a topic of interest to me from the time I started working in Cable and Wireless, so I will soon be writing about how it has evolved over the years, collaborating with my friends from Egypt.
