"Ships are safe in the harbor, but that's not what ships are for !"
You may have seen this in one of my posts:
The most common regret is 10 - not taking risks.
According to studies people fall under a bell curve according to their "risk-takiness", or RQ as I call it.
Risk-takiness (RQ) is closely tied with decisiveness (DQ) which also follows a similar bell curve, as most human behaviors:
Retained search firms often assess candidates on RQ and DQ, either indirectly, or directly by psychometric tests, together with IQ and EQ.
Most of us are not where we need to be on either of these charts.
Half of us are in the risk-averse group. People who are in the risk-prone group do not stay there very long. After a serious set back they go all the way to being risk-averse.
We need to be in the green zones - the calculated smart risk category and informed decision making.
To get there is a constant and conscious push of ourselves.
Understanding of consequences of NOT taking risks, or not making decisions is the hardest task. That's what keeps so many of us from:
- not hiring someone
- not promoting someone
- not taking a new responsibility
- not taking on a new job
- not speaking up
- settling for less than we deserve
Etc
Life is like riding a bike. As soon as you stop taking risks, you begin to fall.
Do you agree ?

7 年I totally agree. Every step I have ever taken in my business has been a RISK. As I am the Pioneer in the Industry I created. I call it - Jumping into the unknown for there IS the treasure. And for all the mistakes I've made is the IP - for I could not have got to my goals unless I failed & failed until I succeeded.
