Shionogi's Tranquil, Japandi-Inspired Workspace at Fifty Paddington

We recently delivered a 13,500 sq ft office fit out for Shionogi Europe, a Japanese pharmaceutical giant, at Fifty Paddington. Within a swift 10-week period, our team transformed this space with a unique blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design influences – a style known as "Japandi." This approach aligns with Shionogi’s brand identity, honouring their heritage while introducing contemporary design principles to elevate functionality and well-being in the workplace.

At the heart of the design are elements inspired by the Japanese courtyard and Engawa, creating a serene flow throughout the space. The layout includes a teapoint softly illuminated with lantern-style lighting and a dedicated seating area that captures the calm and minimalism of traditional Japanese design. This intentional design approach supports a range of working style by enhancing both focused work areas and collaborative zones.

Sustainability was a top priority in the fit out, with eco-friendly products and an emphasis on reusing existing fixtures. The carpets are made with recycled content and are carbon-neutral, while FSC-certified timber features in the joinery. Acoustic panels enhance quietness, while flexible, modular furniture creates an , adaptable environment that supports ?both comfort and productivity for Shionogi’s team.

The workspace includes a multipurpose wellness room that doubles as a recording studio social area with a raised platform for events and presentations. Both spaces have been designed to support well-being, creativity, and connection across the workplace.

This project highlights our ability to translate a client’s values? into a functional, beautiful workplace, with the added challenge of achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating. Shionogi’s new UK headquarters provides a serene, adaptable workspace that captures the essence of their brand and the company’s needs.?
