Shining a Light on Your Success

Hello!
?
I hope you're well and are feeling super refreshed from the extra hour you gained on Sunday!
?
With Halloween coming up this week, there's not many barriers between us and Christmas now, so here's your pre warning that life is likely to get pretty festive pretty soon!
?
I've been thinking about how things are going for me at the moment, and I'm pleased to say they are in a really great place!
?
But as i think about this, it's somewhat paradoxical in the way that this journey feels like it has taken such a long time, whilst also feeling like it's all happening really quickly.
?
When I think about the three years I've been self employed, it feels like that's quite a large chunk of time, and that perhaps I should be a bit further ahead than I am.
?
Equally, I look at where I am now, I struggle to understand how this has even happened and how quickly things are progressing.
?
It almost feels like there's two sides of me having a debate, the side which is quite self deprecating, inpatient and egoic, and then there's the side that is more caring, aware, and realistic.
?
And it's this realisation that got me thinking about how many others may suffer from this kind of Jekyll and Hyde situation, but more importantly how many people are more tuned in to the ‘not good enough’ side.
?
I completely get that it is so much easier to see the gaps, the problems, and the issues, but we absolutely owe it to ourselves to spend some time bathing in the light of our wins and successes, recognising the great work we have done, how far we have come, and how many goals we have actually achieved.
?
In a workshop I facilitated last week where we spoke about an organisations value of excellence, it dawned upon me that as much as quality work, high standards, getting feedback and making improvements fall into this, so does celebrating your wins.
?
It raised the question ‘how can something be excellent if you never acknowledge your excellence’.
?
I'm aware that not all of our work will be excellent, but I'd be willing to bet a lot of money on the fact that when it is we don't actually recognise or acknowledge it.
?
There's a really interesting principle called ‘The Gap and the Gain’ which comes from Dan Sullivan and Dr Benjamin Hardy which explains the above point quite nicely:
?
'Most people, especially highly ambitious people, are unhappy?because of what they measure themselves against. We all have an ideal, which is like a moving target always out of reach. When we measure ourselves against our ideal, we’re in “The Gap.” However, when we measure ourselves against our previous selves—the person we were when we set our goals and ideals—we will be in “The Gain.” In “The Gain” we can more clearly see the progress we’ve made, and therefore will experience the happiness, confidence, and satisfaction that come from achieving—positive, powerful emotions that will motivate us to pursue new goals and ultimately become increasingly successful.'.
?
And with this being said, I really want you to think about what the results of you spending more time in ‘the gain’ rather than ‘the gap’ would be, and what you think it would do for you personally.
?
My guess is that you'd be feeling increasingly positive day to day, less stressed, proud, excited about what's next, and probably quite driven, as opposed to constantly trying to push harder on the accelerator which is already on the floor.
?
As you start your day today, please do spend some time in ‘the gain’ and think about how far you've come and all that you have achieved, as I am certain this will get your day started in the best way.
?
I'm proud of me, and I hope you are proud of you.

“When you get right down to the root of the meaning of the word succeed, you find that it simply means to follow through.”

The Substance
New Movie
?
'Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? You, only better in every way. You should try this new product, it's called The Substance. IT CHANGED MY LIFE. With The Substance, you can generate another you: younger, more beautiful, more perfect. You just have to share time -- one week for one, one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days each... Easy right? If you respect the balance... What could possibly go wrong?'
?
This movie is not like my typical recommendations in the way that it is a bit of a modern psychological horror with a fair bit of gore, however the story and underlying themes of this film are absolutely brilliant.
?
The focus of this film is around an aging star who wants to be a better version of herself, and although this becomes possible, it's certainly comes at a cost.
?
I've read how the theme of this movie aligns with what we are seeing about the ozempic drug, and as much as I know that everyone suffers from body image and body dysmorphia in some capacity, this film really helped me see it from both a female perspective and from an aging perspective.
?
It also reminded me how gross many guys can be which is always a sad realisation!
?
As I've said, it's a pretty crazy and intense film and won't be for everyone, but it is also one of the most clever and thought provoking films I have seen.

Christmas Jumpers
?
I know this is early to be talking about Christmas, and it is in fact the second time I have mentioned it in this email, however I do think you'll thank me for this one!
?
Every year I reluctantly last minute spending more money than I'd like to on a Christmas jumper because an event specifies that I need to wear one, and by the time I get to it there's limited selection and I can't really be bothered.
?
However, a lightbulb went off the other day when I realised that people are selling their old Christmas jumpers on Vinted!
?
This is ideal as it's a lot cheaper, it's more convenient, It's reducing fast fashion, and I can just sell it on again next year!
?
So, if it's likely you'll be in need of a Christmas jumper this year, now is a great time to look before everyone else has the same idea!
How can I help you?
